Post subject:  Rust Under a New 2007 Liberty

Just bought a new 2007 Liberty and noticed it looks rusty underneath. Is this normal for a new Liberty? I can't find anything in the paperwork about factory rust proofing and the salesman did not mention it. Thanks for any help you can provide.

I noticed the same thing on my 06. There's no rust on the frame or the body but some of the part suspension parts looked like they'd sat out in the rain for a year. Mine was manufactured in March of 06 and purchased in October. I was surprised.

I have a 2005 and the suspension (a-arms, uppers, spacers) all look like they sat in the rain since 2002.

Dealers don't usually sell the rust proofing packages as they did in the past as they claim it's not needed and a waste of money. I expect mine to see a lot of salt so I sent it to a Ziebart shop for treatment when it was new. It's as clean as can be undernieth.

It seems like jeeps have a little more rust on them when new than some other chars. Maybe less factory coating on suspension parts etc. I'm gonna wire brush the rusted areas and undercoat the jeep when it gets warmer out. With the salt in the winters I always have done this on all cars I've owned.
