Post subject:  New TSB?? Liberty Rear Brake Problems

Does anyone know anything about a new TSB on the rear brakes of an 06 KJ 4X4?

We brought our new (1300 miles) Libby into the Dealership for a road noise (I thought it was the right rear tire) and they said oh this is under the new TSB. They had to order parts and when the parts came in, they said they needed to replace the pads, rotors and hardware on both sides of the rear brakes.

Anyone have info on this or experienced this? I can't find the TSB anywhere, maybe too new?!

:? :( :x

Post subject:  Update to TSB Question - Liberty Brake Noise

We had our KJ into the dealership yesterday and they replaced the pads, rotors and caliper clips under warranty per Service Bulletin 05-004-06 Revision A.

Dated September 8, 2006

Covers 2003-2006 KJ Liberty/Cherokee Models

Note: Applies to all vehicles built prior to May 27, 2006

I guess I was surprised that they didn't either fix this prior to us buying it in October 2006 or inform us after we bought it that there may be a problem with brake noise.....kind of frustrating thinking they only fix it if people complain about it.

Interesting....I'll have to keep an ear out for the noises on my Jeep now...might be that perhaps....thanks for all the heads up...hope the noise went away...

Just to clarify, it was the rear brakes and it started the day after we purchased it. My wife says the noise is gone, but then again she couldn't hear it in the first place with her Fergi cd cranked......ugh! I said Fergi!

maybe that is why my caliper had to be replaced and they only did one side. never mentioned the tsb

They claim they didn't actually change the calipers, just the caliper clips, pads and rotors on both sides to the rear brakes.

We plan to take it out on the lake tomorrow to do some ice fishing. Wait, maybe not, it's -10 degrees!!!!

I'm glad this got posted because my dealer told me last week that I had 5% rear brake left  & 50% front now I know it should be a 2 to 1 ratio so this helps & recently I've been getting the moan noise especialy at low speeds even NOT applying the brake

This seems to be very common to the KJ. My 03 did the brake moaning thing and the rear pads were worn out waaaaaay early. Rotors back there were still good though. The front brakes are still good now.

Yeah. I'm hoping this helps our horrible fuel mileage at least a little bit. Could they have been dragging that much?

I was surprised when at a stop light, release the brakes and it wouldn't move forward at all. Now it does since they repaired it.

I just failed my VA state inspection because my rear brake are under 2/3, Then they didn't even have them in stock.

Do you have the TSB # so I can bring it up when they get the parts in?

Thanks

Am I reading this correctly??? You have an '05 with less than 1/3 usable rear brakes left, bad enough that it won't pass a safety inspection? How many miles? To put this into perspective, I don't recall wearing out the rear brakes on any vehicle.

Yes you are reading correctly, I have 36,000 miles on it. I'm going back over tomorrow to talk to them about the TSB and I will pull the tires today to take a gander for myself.

TSB # 05-004-06 Revision A

Rear brakes should go at least twice as long as fronts if not three times as long before needing replacement.

We love our KJ but the fuel mileage has been bad (12.5 average) since we got it 1800 miles ago.

fyi......I'm thinking of trading my Lexus for a Wrangler Rubicon (2 door!)

Ouch, and I was unhappy because my mileage slipped to @ 22 on a couple of tanks.

That's quite a jump.

Your 06 is getting 12.5????

I have an 06 too with a lift and roof basket and larger tires and wheels and still get about 15mpg......Are you a lead foot driver??

Post subject:

Yes it is an '06 3.7 Gas. It is my wife's daily driver and she is a little lead foot but still....c'mon, 12.5 average?

That is taken each fill for the first 7 tank fulls. We have been refilling when the tank is below an 1/8.

It is very frustrating. It only has about 1700 miles on it and Jeep says nothing is wrong with it. They have checked it out.

We also still have the mystery noise in the right rear tire @ 35 mph. Any ideas? It starts at 30 and gets louder around 37 and goes away around 40.

Unless you had the issue documented before the 12,000 mile time line, it isn't covered under warranty or a TSB because it is a wear item.

Hi there. What did you say to your dealer to have them warrenty this. I have an 06 the front pads are around 60% the rear are at 5% and my rear rotors are glazed and blued. The dealer tells my too bad and i'm with-in the oem warrenty? HELP!!!, PS what kind of gas mileage were you getting before and now. When i first got my KJ i was seeing 18mpg now i get 12 consistantly, and with MT's i get 11mpg. I baby the gas pedal because i can't afford to treat it otherwise :(

The dealership is giving us the run around. They claim they "can't hear the noise".

I'm going to speak with the General Manager of the dealership.
