Post subject:  Rear Break Recall??

A friend of mine had an 05 KJ. He traded it in. But he said he got a recall letter on the rear breaks. The letter said the brakes will lock up solid and stay that way. Anyone heard anything?

I just checked the Jeep recall site and it said no recalls. He must have been jerking my chain a little.

i just had to replace my rear pads and rotors and caliper slides. the factory never lubricated the slide pins on both calipers. the pins siezed and rear brakes draged. my mileage originaly dropped at around 26k miles and now i have about 34k. now mileage is ok. Also, one caliper was siezed tighter then the other. This kept causing an ESP error in the rain and gravel because the computer could not compensate enough for the differential in wheel spin. so it thought that ESP system was malfunctioning. Of course the dealer could not figure the ESP error and said the rear brakes were OK. Check your brakes as you do your ball joints.

STRANGE!!!!!!!!!!! This morning one of my rear breaks is starting to stick. If I tap the pedal it clears up. I think it is on the same side that they had to replace a bent axle from my accident. Whats the thoughts on this?

My 05 CRD is in the shop for brake work. Done under the recall. The brakes were "moaning" language that the tech used that got the brake work done. Only 24,000 on the KJ.

I had my Rt Rear drag about 2 months ago. I knew only because I could smell it when I parked it. I went and touched it and it was hot. I figured it was a drive or tow to the shop in the morning but it released on its own. Others have reported similar problems generally with the Rt Rear but it can be either one.

There has been TSBs on rear brakes "moaning" for some years of Liberty. I wasn't aware of the TSB until my rear brakes wore out prematurely. I thought the "moaning" was something normal, or just due to weather, etc.

Check here: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/probl ... search.cfm

Here's an odd one: the 2007 KJs have a TSB out for: "cracked windshield due to being hit by a foreign object such as a stone." :o

weird stuff .. must be crappy DC brakes ... I just put new pads and shoes on my kids 2003 neon ... only 26k miles .. but we couldn't stand the screeching every time we tried to move the dang thing.

and get this ... the pads and shoes weren't hardly worn down ... compared to new wasn't much difference.

15,000 miles on an 06. I just had my rear brakes worked on. Pads worn down to zero. I pulled into work and smelled them smoking...then I thought about it and I recalled feeling sluggish on the way to work that morning.

Took it the dealer the next day and the calipers seized. Almost looked like someone drove with the E brake on....I didn't do it.....

The front brakes still had 50 percent left, which is weird.

The dealer did a resurface job and replaced calipers under warranty, but I got stuck with new pads and labor.

No recall info.....but it looks like there should have been.

So is there a recall or not? Just put new rear brakes on at just below 20k.

?? 20K ?? - I'm at 64K and the rears are getting close to the 1st change.

There was a recall for some - not for all and if you just put new on -
your maintenance would have overridden the original problem.

There's a TSB for late 03-early 04's for rear brake moan. They're supposed to replace the pads, and if that doesn't solve to problem, they're supposed to replace the rotor and caliper. All free of charge of course.
