When I was attending college full time as a 29-32 yr old, a very large portion of the "kids" were on Zoloft or ritolin (sp?). I could not believe it. Society has come up with an easy excuse for kids behavior and the drug companies pushed hard to sell those drugs to the professionals to push them on the parents. It is a visious cycle. I won't name the two decades that were the main cause but I was born in one and went to elementary and jr high schools in the other.

No more punishment of kids was a real dinger. Johnny is just exercising his First Amendment rights or expressing himself. We should not suppress him. When things did go too far.......he is ADD or ADHD so we better give him some drugs. Now we have Energy drinks to create even more problems and excuses for kids to act up.
Also:
Parents are too busy for their kids. Usually both are working now and not putting enough emphasis on teaching their kids the right way to be a human being.
Along with:
The fact that people now say you must earn my respect is wrong. Everybody should be treated with respect and dignity until they lose it. Then they must earn it back. All seniors (especially our war vets) deserve the highest respect. Yes, they can lose it, but they earned their right to have it from the start.
And:
Society now expects something in return. What about me syndrome. I want my share. My question to you is, did you earn it? Nobody wants to earn anything. They expect society to give it to them. Proof is in this current economy.

My soapbox is cracking so I shall step down now.

I am not lying when I tell you that my daughter's regularly receive compliments on their behavior and manners when were are out. And it didn't take drugs or a magic trick.

I think we can find some on here who are obvious products of the decline this thread details. :( It is truly saddening to me.

But the burns on here have been great! Digger, all I can say is "ouch." 8)

I was expected to graduate from high school and go on to some type of higher education (college or vocational school). I was expected to buy my first car. I didn’t get any free money to go to college because my parents made too much money. Today, I have several students who (are on free breakfast and lunch, free medical, free eye care, and yes, some do not have a social security number) can go to college for free! However, most students who can go to college or a trade school for free do not take advantage of a free education and blow it off. In general, most students who go to college have to pay out of their own pockets. So we punish the hard working families and reward the families who don’t care. Just sayin’…………… :D

My sis has 3 kids, 2 boys and a girl. and they are very well behaved. Laurie is a firm believer in applying the Board of Education to the seat of learning.
