I have a friend with a Dodge Durango that has blown front and rear speakers (6 1/2 inch)...He went to Best Buy to purchase new speakers and was told that since he has the upgraded Infinity system, he would need to replace the head unit along with the speakers. I can't believe this is correct.

Does anyone have some insite of whether or not you need to replace everything (headunit and speakers) or if normal off the shelf speakers will work as a replacement?

if he has the infinity system then yes, you cant just replace the speakers, the speakers on the stock infinity system are 2 ohms, all after market speakers that bby has(not subs) are 4 ohms, its like a french man and an english man trying to talk to each other... the off the shelf speakers will technically work, however they will only be half as loud because the factory amp is made to see 2 ohm speakers, when you replace the speakers youll have to bypass the amp also, its in the passengers kick panel, and because you have to by pass the amp youll have to replace the factory radio with an aftermarket because the factory radio dosnt have an internal amp to power any speakers

You can always find 2ohm speakers here check it out::

Just because it's 2ohm it doesn't mean nothing.. You can get a Dual 4ohm 6.5 speaker and wire it down to 2 ohm or 8 ohm so I mean there's lots of options but I don't know where you got your information Stefano but wake up they do make 2ohm Speakers in 6.5.. now I will say this 2005KJSport you might want to go with the 6 3/4 for a direct fit instead of 6.5... because Chrysler's speakers aren't direct fit on 6 1/2..

i never said they didnt make them, i thought a simple search of google would have given him that option, i was saying if you try to buy speakers from a stereo shop, ive never seen a 2 ohm for sale in a shop, and finding a dual 4 ohm 6.5 speaker, again im sure you can find it online but ive never seen one in a shop
