man the price of tools has went way up since I started buying them in the early 70s, then if you had $500/$750 tied up in tools you were one he77 of a great mechanic, you had everything you ever needed.  Now days you have to have 5000 just tied up in the tool box before you start buying tools

bread 19 to 35 cents and I pumped plenty of gas at 39/40 cents...high test at that. Quart of Valvoline oil 79 cents, spark plugs 70 to 90 cents

best thing is I still have most all of my tools I bought back then, sold off my big ( for then) tool box since a big tool box does not make a real mechanic ( thats what the old timers said when I got "the big tool box" )   Thats back when a car pulled in you listened to the engine and could tell what was wrong, didn't have someone hooking up a heart monitor to it, charging you 200 bucks and then saying well you need 500 more dollars worth of repairs. Very few real mechanics left in the world today....most only are trained to replace parts..rant over

ThunderbirdJunkie prefers a prybar. A good one, with the tang that extends through the end of the handle.

Snap on...Blech.

Yeah but c'mon tom, some of those old timer's were just cranky, didn't like change, and felt threatened by the younger guys.

One time while working out at one of our smaller quarries (which also sold retail products) on a Saturday and this old guy was buying stones for his daughter's new home. I had parked my front loader outside the scale house / office and was heading inside when this guy stopped me to chat. He told me he had retired as a Operating Engineer (about 15 years ago at that time) and asked if he could peek inside my machine. The old guy had no problem climbing the ladder to look inside but I had to laugh when he said, "&$#(!&!, you've got everything in here but the kitchen sink!" - Referring to my air ride seat, CB, stereo system and AC in the cab.

I suppose it's only a few short years until I become a cranky old timer too.

ya seen all of the AOD / evil deads?

it's pretty halarious to watch them all in a row, and see how they 'screwed' up the story line in the differing movies that had the same story
