Pension shows up at the first of th emonth just fine. second "career" job looks pretty secure. Fingers crossed.

For those unemployed due to layoff/downsizing: are any of you unemployed because you are receiving some sort of benifits that make biting the bullet and taking a "lower class" job unpalatable? Ohio lists it rate at around 10%, but a friend retired in may and was working again in June.

Although construction projects aren't what they would normally be this time of year, we're busy at the quarry. It was a rough winter around Chicago and those who live here know that most every Interstate, expressway and major route is currently under construction. We're moving a lot of stone!

People keep having babies and Joint Commission keeps mandating infant security systems in hospitals. So I keep getting over time. Got lucky and landed a job in a demanding industry... so far.

Still have a job, but, I work skilled trades - machine repair for an auto industry tier 2 supplier and so far this year have had to take a 20% pay cut in JAN. then a cut back to 35 hours in FEB. So I guess I'm 1 of the " lucky" underemployed ones. A major portion of our contracts are for GM and they simply stopped all orders for the next 2 mos. so I don't know what's coming up.

Looks like the Jeep folks are doing worse than national average. Either that or the unemployed people have more time to do these polls.

Odd that we have 12% of those responding as being in the 9.8% unemployed.

They are not counting all those that have stopped looking for work. I think the figure is closer to 16%.

Not sure where I am all since all State of Ohio employees had to take a mandatory 10 days a year off without pay and also lost 4 Personal Days for the next two years. Our Govenor made a big deal that he personally gave up 5000 dollars a year, so nice of him since he has no vehicle payments, no house payment, insurance or anything to pay. Actually the 5000 that he gave up is less than I lost, I sent him a letter to prove the point but never heard back

Unemployed for 14 months and counting.
You have to remember that the govt's 'unemployed' rate is a technical term... applies only to those currently drawing unemployment benefits. People who have dropped off the end of the chart no longer count. People who took a part-time job at 1/3 former earnings no longer count.
In a cruel twist of fate, I was reapproved for another 13 weeks of unemployment benefits, otherwise I'd be living under the bridge, eating out of garbage cans and scavaging Jeep parts off your machines.
And it appears we have not hit bottom yet.

If you din't have such cool, shiny parts on your KJ, you wouldn't have to worry.

Unemployment really sux. It has completely cramped my Jeep upgrade path.
