220-215. We Are Utterly Screwed. It officially goes into effect in 2013. It requires you to purchase healthcare, if you don't you get charged with Felony Evasion and up to $250,000 fine and 5 years in prison. Also Once you get a felony on your record your not allowed to vote or own firearms. So Yeah if you can't afford it because your already taxed too much be ready to lay down like a peasant to the government because they will take your liberties away from you.

"The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in the good of others; we are interested solely in power. Not wealth or luxury or long life or happiness: only power, pure power. What pure power means you will understand presently. We are different from all the oligarchies of the past, in that we know what we are doing. All the others, even those who resembled ourselves, were cowards and hypocrites. The German Nazis and the Russian Communists came very close to us in their methods, but they never had the courage to recognize their own motives. They pretended, perhaps they even believed, that they had seized power unwillingly and for a limited time, and that just round the corner there lay a paradise where human beings would be free and equal. We are not like that. We know that no one ever seizes power with the intention of relinquishing it. Power is not a means; it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power."

The Answer to 1984 is 1776

All I hear is Hooray Hooray from the ignorant and deceived thinking that they have really shown the Republicans Who Is Boss, thinking the GOP was against this bill because the insurance companies gave them money. WAKE UP the insurance companies will LOVE THIS, Now you have to Buy their health care. combined with the state run healthcare they could rise the cost as high as they want and If you can't afford it? TO BAD You get thrown in prison with the rest of low income people to act as slave labor to the state.

Sad day in America, yes indeed
"We are utterly screwed" is very correct.
I often wonder what our founding fathers of this once great nation would think of this mess.
Here we come One World Order, next on "their" agenda is our currency.
IBTL I am sure...........

Doesn't it still have to pass the Senate? I do believe that BOTH houses of Congress have to pass it then send it on for a bill to become law. I know I graduated decades ago, but I would have remebered a change like that. :)

I thought it had passed the House and now it has to be passed by the Senate. Even after that both sides have to vote again on the final version right?

one of the many kickers, was this public "option" is a curtain for something else, if you actually read the bill that passed it actually reads that if the private healthcare sectors insurance companies fail to become competitive or whatever the correct terminology is that private healthcare will then be deemed illegal then everyone would be forced into the govt healthcare "public option" ..

doesn't sound like an "option" to me.

No doubt in my mine that it will pass each time. The same party that has control of the white house has control of the House and the Senate, can't really see it failing.

What a shame.

BS - if you don't purchase - you pay a 2.5% income tax fine

read sec 501

Of course if you don't pay your income taxes - that would be a felony.
but for most folks that can't afford it - their taxable income is close to 0 so 2.5% of 0 is ...0

(There are lots of reason to complain - but that's not one of them)

This is a House bill.
The Senate will generate and pass its own bill.
Then a joint review committee will work the real magic by generating a combined compromise bill. Whether or not you like what's passed so far is less the issue than what kind of snake oil sales happens behind closed doors when our duly elected Congress goes to work.
Regardless of where you come down on this issue, there will be a lot of shenanigans behind closed doors... hey, it's Congress, remember?
