it dont look too bad was the front end hit or was it removed? if so it should be a easy fix put on a new front end, roof skin and windshild and it should be good as new

Nah, I've dealt with worse:

It's mostly the learning curve thats gonna get me, but I'm getting things figured out for what I need, and I haven't even seen it yet.

Well I got the build sheet back today, turns out it does have a sentry key, which if the key is really missing is going to cause me problems, on the info page it says "YES" to keys, but the miles were never recorded, and "N/K" (no key) is written on the windshield from when it came in. Hopefully they got the keys later and its included, but incase it doesn't have a key I stopped by the dealer and got a non chipped one made, I won't be able to start it with that key, but I at least will be able to move the thing around untill I can find a DRBIII or a locksmith to reprogram the key.

The thing of it is the sentry key won't stop a smart thief, if you have a key and matching SKIM you can plug those in to the existing SMIK circuit(leaving the one it came with, and that will send the "OK" message on the PCI bus to the ECU to start it, then you just need to crack the tubmler out to start it.

Keeps the honest people honest, and the dumb criminals honest.

I have never delt with one of those keys but as I understand it, it can get pricey. This might be a real dumb question but can you change out the tumbler to an earlier model and have the ECU reprogrammed so it always thinks ok start?

From the factory none of the ECU's are setup for the sentry key system, however the first time the ECU is powered up with a SKIM(sentry key immobilizer module) attached it turns the ECU into a SKIM Ecu.

My buddy had a Jeep that he bought that came without a key and a busted ECU from a collision, after he got it together enough to start it and move it around the shop under its own power he popped in the ECU from his Daily Driver XJ, turns out that the Jeep needed a sentry key and it activated the SKIM option in the ECU, only a good ECU tuner can turn that back off with a new calibration. So he ended up "bricking" the ECU for any XJ other than one with the SKIM.

So to disable the SKIM I would need to remove the RF receiver(I got pics of the KJ unit, so I'm gonna compare them when I get the jeep), and get a non-SKIM ecu, or get my ECU reflashed, I will look into that, GDE is probably the only bet of anyone I could find who could do that.

Otherwise a good locksmith should have the tools to do it as well, and if I can order up some JEEP blanks, get a locksmith to come out to do the reprogramming, and have the cut pattern already cut, I might be able to get this done cheap, I will just have to sit down with the yellowpages and call locksmiths and see who can do what and what price.

Well every dollar I have to spend on it is a dollar less in my pocket, to put it simply.

No one will appreciate the trouble and money I spend on getting the sentry key for it, but they will noticed the little ding in the back hatch, and that hood its quite perfect from the little spot I had to retouch.....

Nor will they notice a brand new windshield, they would notice a terrible cracked and pitted windshield(like if it was 2 or 3 years old like my XJ). So new windshield $0 added value. Poor windshield -$ value.

Plus if anyone thinks you are trying to flip a vehicle to make a buck your looked at like a pariah and you get this thing of "well how much did you pay?" or "well why are you selling it?" to which the real answer is "Much less than you are paying, and because I want to make a boat load of money off of it."

What transmission does this WJ have? Some of the 45RFE trannys were capable of being upgraded from 4spd to 5spd

Dunno how it works over in the US but here we can just order a pre-coded key with the VIN number..

You can get a key cut from the VIN, but then a vehicle 4 digit PIN needs to be looked up from Chrysler, set in the SKIM, then the SKIM can learn a new Key.

Basically you need the DRB III, the PIN, a correctly cut transponder key, and the Jeep all in one place then it only takes a few minutes to do both.

Well the Jeep was delivered today, turns out it did come with a correct cut security key, but that key was never programmed to the vehicle.

Plus it seems like the tranny shift cable is off or broken or something, it looks like its stuck in drive because when I hot wire it it lurches forward on me, so I need to get the shifter fixed, then I ought to be able to start it without it lurching forward on me, and move it around 3 secs at a time.

Unfortunatly it looks like some body work was done a long time ago that while being a GREAT spray and bodywork, was never sealed correctly and rusted from the inside, I guess I get to be the guy to strip it off and fix it, I'll probably just pickup a new rear door to call that one good.

Beavis wasn't wearing their seatbelt when it happened and hit the steering wheel and bent it. Ya the airbag may save your life, but if you hit the steering wheel hard enough with your chest to bend it your probably gonna wish you had your seatbelt on. Beavis. I guess now I HAVE to put that Overland Steering wheel on.

It was also a smokers car so there are cig burns on the seats as well a smell to it. I swear smokers cars are always so revolting, I have to get the smell out of the thing to sell it. Between Homicide, Suicide and Smokers cars I tell ya the smoke is the nastiest, its much easier to get out other smells than smoke smells.

Someone stole the faceplate off of it between when I saw it and when I got it delivered to me this morning, *******s, I might see if I can get a new one, or I might just throw in a 6 disk changer I have here from a KJ and call it good, depends on if they hacked the wiring behind the radio or not.

I can't wait to see how ya get that front end straightened out. :JEEPIN:
Also, I am a smoker and non smokers are absolutely amazed that I have EVER lit a smoke in my Jeep, I guess it's the difference between being a slob or not. I also have cleaned human guts out of dash's before, so on a rating scale of cig. smoke or guts, I would choose smoke smell any day! I also quit that part time job the day I had to remove a womans front end parts from dash vents, sorta like silly putty squished into them, my vomit smelled better on that hot summer day :5SHOTS:

Went down to get a rear hatch for my WJ, lucked out that it was still there and managed to grab it, it was cheaper without the glass so I removed the rear glass.

Ending up being a pita to carry out by myself so I stuck my head through the window hole and rested it on my neck like I was some sort of beast of burden, walked right up into the office and paid without ever taking it off. $45 later I scored a undented correct color hatch to replace the one on my WJ.

Then we headed back over to the other yard that had a WJ dana 30 that I needed, started pulling that and my buddy hurriedly came back over telling me, "We're pulling another axle!"

Turns out he found an XJ 87 with a Dana 44, so I moved our tools over there real quick and 25 mins later we had a Dana 44 pulled.

Went back over and worked on the WJ, racing against the clock of the anouncments of 45 mins till close, then 40, then 35, then 30.

Got everything loaded on the cart and out the door. $290 for 2 axles.

Hopefully I cant find a core to bring back and I'll bring back the bent WJ D30 and get $60 back in cores.

I'll take the brakes and high steer off of the old WJ Dana 30 and throw those on my XJ......BIG BRAKES for my XJ woot!(and highsteer but I don't care about that).

So I got my front axle for the WJ(that might have 3.73s and I need 3.55), got a XJ Dana 44 to sell to recoup the purchase price of the WJ D30, and I got a matching color silver door.

It was a good day.
