Post subject: | NASCAR: To flag, or not to flag |
A number of years ago NASCAR decided that, in an effort to save everyone from the inherent danger of what used to be known as "The race to the flag," everyone's position would be sealed at the instant the flag came out. In days past, when something happened on the track, NASCAR would throw the yellow flag and your restart position would be determined by your position the next time you crossed the start/finish line. So there was a mad dash back to the line in a crazy jockey for position. They did away with that racing strategy and started telling everyone that, where you are when the yellow flag flies, is where you will restart from (or finish). The question is; Should NASCAR have thrown the yellow flag when the first wreck started on the last lap of the Daytona 500? |

alot of the fan base is upset that Toyota is now involved with the cup series drivers in other words foriegn manufaturer in an american based sport BUT we found out yesterday the Camry is made in america & the other 3 are not ( chevy, ford, & dodge) thier built in Canada & Mexico kind of a touchy subject I for one don't care they've been in the truck series for about 3 yrs now it was only a matter of time ![]() |

now as for my take on the poll question I voted let them finish the race they were on the final lap with about 600 feet to go "Let em Race" |

well if the flag had even came out when the first wreck happened Kevin would have won anyway so it is a moot point i think....i just congratulate Clint Bowyer on crossing the line on his roof...style points should be added to his total points so far this season... |

I put the "Mark's in a Chevy and there are Toyotas on the track" instead of an "I don't care" option because people that don't care shouldn't vote. But seriously, Mark Martin driving a Chevy is big news and so is a Toyota on a NASCAR track. Not noticing the rest of the race because of those two factors warranted a poll option in my perspective. 2006KJSPORT4x4 wrote: style points should be added to his total points so far this season...
Yea, I can see the new EA Sports game "NASCAR Street"! That would RULE! |

Did anyone notice that Gordon's teammate left him out to dry on the outside, close to the finish? |

the option i want to vote for is "who cares as long as Jeff Gordon and Jimmy Johnson have bad finishes" i understand why they do the green/white/checker finish, but most times it ends up like it did yesterday, tons of smashed cars at the end. i would probably be upset too though, if i went to a race, any race, spent all that money and got a yellow flag finish. |

I'm saying finish the race, because like duckey said, i would sure be angry if the race was finished under yellow, coming from a racing perspective that can be dangerous when drivers start jockeying for position, but thats racing and nothing wrong with a lil paint swapping to get what you want.... |

Even though I really wanted Mark to win, I feel the way they let it end was appropriate. |
