I'm on OH-58D Kiowa Warrior helicopter pilot in the Army and am currently deployed to Iraq. I have the opportunity to fly a flag for whomever I wish. Once completed, I would have a certificate saying who flew it, on what day, and on whose behalf. Since death is an inevitability (either of old age or other circumstances), I was considering flying an official casket flag on my anniversary for my wife and kids. I wouldn't give it to them but hold onto it and the certificate until that fateful day. At which point my family could drape my casket with the flag I flew specifically for them. Am I being overly morbid or is this something worth doing? Please give your opinion. |

good idea, but I'd have your wingmen fly a flag for you and you for your wingmen. Brothers at arms... |

I like Bugnout's idea too. Fly it for your second seat and he for you. Very cool. We'd like to send a big THANK YOU from the Dog Party household to you and all your squadron-mates for protecting our liberty and freedom. Be safe and know that we are praying for your safe return. |

Brothers at arms... I thank everyone for their support. Those of us over here could not tough it out without your support from back home. I'm a little confused with bugnout's idea though. How would my wingman flying a flag for me be something special for my wife when I die? Am I missing something? I think it would be cool to fly a flag for my wingman and vice versa to remind us of what we went through together over here ... but that wouldn't be for my wife. Am I somehow missing something? |

I'm not a military man, but any way you can honor your family is a good thing. If it comes to you making the ultimate sacrifice, I pray it doesn't, then that would mean a lot to your family I would think. Thanks for your service and God Bless! |
