I'm getting back into my photography hobby and I'm looking to get the Nikon D90. Along with the camera body, I like the new zoom 18-105mm zoom lens that seems to be most often package with it. I also plan to get a fixed 50mm f/1.4 lens for low light - non flash situations and a macro lens for taking pictures of my collections and other hobbies. And maybe a telephoto depending on how much I can save on the first three items.

Now where online should I purchase the above? There seems to be two types of online dealers today online -- those that I remember from their 80's newspaper ads, but now hardly offer any decent discount. And a bunch of new dealers with great prices, but lots of suspicious customer recommendation on their site.

So has anybody done business with any these bargain electronic photography dealers? Because I really don't trust dealers that don't put their physical address or phone number on their contact page.

Try Amazon.com, they have good prices and they've been around a while.
If you type in the D90 and the seller comes up and it's NOT Amazon click on the "More buying options" button to the right. I have a buddy at work who bought a D300 from Amazon last summer. No problems.

Be careful of Gray Market cameras. Awesome prices/too good to be true prices usually means Gray Market. Avoid like the plague.

Gotta love Nikons.
I have a N90s and a D70. Great cameras. Bought locally though.

Be sure to check http://www.resellerratings.com

There are a lot of shady places that will try to screw you on camera gear. [/url]

After reading photography forum threads all day long, I decided to switch to the Sony A350 and purchased directly from them. They're running a sale that matched the lowest price in the marketplace,

Now to find a decent gadget bag for all my new goodies.

What kind of lens does it come with? Or did you just buy the body?

I bought the A350X model, which is the same as the A350, but it comes package with the DT - 18-70mm f/3.5-5.6 Zoom and the DT - 55-200mm f4-5.6 Telephoto Zoom Lenses. I also added the SAL-50F14 - 50mm f/1.4 and the SAL-100M28 - 100mm f/2.8 Macro Lenses.

LINK: DSLR A350

The two DT lenses are probably not great, but they only added $150 to the total cost.

Not bad price for the lenses. I need to get a bigger and better lens on my Rebel XTi. The Canon stock lens is listed as not the greatest.

Time to check out Craigslist for desperate sellers.

cool plus with that body you get built in anti shake with every lens. if you go on ebay you can pick up a good old minolta lens for pretty cheap. I have that 18-70mm that came with my Minolta 7D decent lens for being a kit lens. I love my old minolta and cant wait to get a A700 probly next year now that i have my lens collection built up.

I got Minolta cameras and lenses from the late 70s. For curiosity, would those lenses fit the Sony A350?

are they autofocus lenses? becuase i belive it was around 1984-85 when minolta switched to the a-mount for the lenses and sony kept that for all of their cameras.

No. That was about the time I dropped out of the hobby. So I guess that makes it a solid no for reusing.

Too bad, I was interested in reusing the 500mm. There is really no focusing with a mirror lens. You set it on infinity and shoot.
