Sure feel for you all. Not sure what type of surveying youre doing/did but I was a rod man for 2 summers and its the crappiest thing Ive ever done. Worked mostly on strip jobs so road work may not be as bad.
I usually try to go the limit through construction. Thats one place that I do not want to get a ticket.

i do mostly boundary work but also road staking, location work, sub division layouts, setting pins running property lines inside, marking ...about everything i guess.
i started as a rod man for 3 months, then gun man for 1 1/2 years then crew chief for the rest of the time. road work is the easiest IMO but the most dangerous. anything involving boundary work/ property line or pin setting/marking can be some of the hardest physical work Ive ever done. surveying in the mountains sucks big time.
