Post subject:  Geez... the Liberty Still Not Getting Respect!!!

What gives??? After all this time, I would of thought other Jeep clubs/groups would have by now acknowledged that the Liberty (even stock height ones) are capable offroad Jeeps and include them in their sub-forums.

Since getting our new JK, I have once again started looking around at other Jeep and JK specific forums to see what's going on outside of L.O.S.T. Without mentioning names, I am surprised that all the clubs/groups I've looked at have no specific forum for the Liberty, but have forums for every other type of Jeep. Even a well known Arizona online club and it's spinoff (a few Arizona L.O.S.T members here display their club decals) don't have a forum for the Liberty.

To say the least, I am very surprised at what I preceive as the Liberty still being ignored by the Jeeping community. I'm glad the L.O.S.T. group welcomes all models of Jeeps and even other makes of 4x4's. Beth and I have always said, "this is a great bunch of people to be associated with".

----------------------------------------------------------------

With all that said, as a result of my research for other clubs/groups, I came across a small group based out of Mesa, AZ and are geared towards families and singles. They focus on easy to moderate rated trails (no hardcore stuff) and an occasional camping trip as far away as Canyon de Chelly. They hold a run each month (more if someone posts one) and seem to always get very good turn outs for a group with only 50 members and their families. Many in the group drive Jeeps but they are not Jeep specific ... all makes of 4x4's are welcomed!!!

I am not trying to take members away from L.O.S.T., only letting folks in and around the Valley know there is another family oriented group where you can go to get more time in the dirt while still supporting L.O.S.T. Beth and I just joined and are making our first run with them to Bulldog Canyon (Wells #46) this Saturday, Jan 17th.

The only things required to join are a capable 4x4 "with a CB" (many are also Hams), a $20.00 a year fee to help maintain the hosting service, and have a "hold harmless" form on file with the group.

If anyone is interested, shoot me a PM and I'll send you some info.

Note: Admin/Mods... the second half of this post is ment only to let folks in and around Phoenix know I stumbled upon a small group that welcomes everyone with a 4x4. If you think it is inapropriate, please feel free to modify my post, leaving out my reference to the other group.

Thanks,
AJ

There is Nothing wrong w/ spreading the wealth amongst organizations and getting off road w/ them or talking about it on the forum.

LOST Is about just That. Liberty owners need to understand that the best way for them to be accepted is to get out there and wheel w/ others. We don't have to just wheel w/ other Libertys and by doing so we limit our exposure to great people and great places, etc.

While I am surprised at the lack of forums that have Liberty sections, if you visit some forums that do have them, you will find a lack of participation. I suspect that some forums may have even dropped their Liberty sections due to inactivity.

Bottom line amongst some Jeep owners is Liberty owners need to adapt and show up. They need to get out there and get LOST w/ others. They need to show what they can do if they want to be accepted.

Personally I could care less if I am accepted. I wheel what I got and love it. I will wheel w/ anyone regardless of what they drive and I will further that attitude by telling everyone that it doesn't matter what you wheel as long as you get out and just wheel. So far the majority of folks I have talked to about it agree and welcome me regardless of which Jeep I am in. I hope that every LOST member is out doing the same and sharing their love of their Jeep w/ everyone that will listen. And I hope they are inviting them all back to LOST Jeeps too.

Anyhow, Everyone please get LOST w/ whoever you want but please come back and share your experiences here w/ your LOST family. Oh and make sure to bring your new Jeep friends back here w/ you.

Thanks JJ, you said exactly what I feel. I'll do my best to see if I can get some folks from the new group to visit L.O.S.T. and get involved in our activities, no mater what they drive.

Part of what JJ is saying is, if you want respect you have to earn it. The easy way to get "respect" is buy a TJ. People will "respect" you even if you don't know how to wheel it. For many, respect is about conformity.

If you like your KJ, just learn how to wheel it, and stop worrying about what everybody else is driving, or what they think.

I think you took my post all wrong. The intent of my post was to state that I was 'surprised and amazed' that other Jeep groups do not have Liberty's in their sub-forums.

Oh, and I do like my KJ and I think I wheel it just fine. I am not worried as to what everyone else is driving or what they think. If I was, I wouldn't be driving a Liberty or taking it out on the trail. Rest assured, my stock height KJ has seen it's share of 3.0 rated trails and proudly displays the "got groceries?" sticker along with the LOST and AZ Assoc of 4-wd Club decals on the back window....

 Well, good for you. See? You feel better already. :D Just out of curiosity, why are you concerned about what other forums don't have?

Yeap... been feeling better for a long time and it keeps getting even better!!!

To answer your question... I recently bought a new '08 JK Wrangler X and was looking around on the other Jeep forums here in Arizona to see what was going. It was then I noticed they all have sub-forums for every model of Jeep and even other 4x4's, but nothing for the Liberty. I thought that was strange, especially since i know what the Liberty is capable of. I was amazed that the Jeeping community still over looks the Liberty.

To this day, I get the biggest kick out of driving by a group of modified Wranglers on the trail as they look at our Liberty's in amazement...

Off topic but
If you want respect get a TJ ? Interesting?? I have wheeled with people who thought the CJs/TJs were the biggest waste pf steel ever  I have wheeled with everything from the big 3 to Subaru Brats, I never thought as one being better than the other, all serve a purpose

NOW BACK TO THE ORIGINAL POST
I think it has a lot to do with how other sites view the KJ, this site for example has all kinds of members from nothing but streeters/ mall cruisers to almost full blown off road rigs, most sites that I have visited either has mostly mall cruisers or kids who only post about the wattage they have in the back of their "car" but not the full spectrum of what we have here at LOST.
I can only stand to be on some of the other sites for about two minutes before I want to slit my wrists.  So others see those posts and think that all people who own a KJ must all act the same, so are surprised when they see a KJ out wheeling
Just my views but..... you get what you pay for when you read them

Granted, I don't have a lot of experience wheeling with other's, but I find respect on the trails and a lack there of hidden behind computer screens. I'm just sayin'....

For a huge part of the problem, you need look no further than hacks like Cappa at JP mag. Their ignorance & prejudice have a bully pulpit that the lemmings can't see through.

I would like to see Cappa get transferred to Japan to write about drifting or ??????????????

I could care less what many think of me or my rides.I do my thing you do yours. However hooking a strap up to a Jeep and pulling it up a hill I just climbed is always it's own reward.

Get out there and wheel. Period. The more people see the KJ on the trails the better. Maybe people will come around, but who cares if they do? We have LOST and the nay-sayers can have their sites. The more varied the jeeps on here the better and the more we, as a LOST community, make our presence felt out in the 4x4 world, the better.

[rant on] I do not desire their respect or acknowledgment . I did not by my KK because I wanted to impress any one, I bought it because the stats were a good moderation between everything I wanted a vehicle to be. I do not care if I turn every head in town or none at all. I am happy there is a forum of my Brethren and Sisters here I can share my enthusiasm with, but I do not wish the world to be like minded. It would not be nearly as interesting a place [Rant off]
