I can't wait. Now that BSG has ended (though anoher series is being spun off from it), I need some good new Sci Fi fix.

I've never liked Star Trek a lot but this movie actually looks like it would be enjoyable.

Meh, not real enthused about this one. Mostly over piddling nit-picky stuff but I think the ST franchise is just running on fumes now. Just my opinion 8)

Are they starting this series from the beginning like they did with the batman movies. Saw the trailer and I think that it looks pretty good. I am a sci-fi nerd though.

POP QUIZ, HOT SHOTS!

What does the new Star Trek movie and the original, animated Transformers movie have in common?

No search-engine cheating!

BTW-Definitely want to see it. Have seen every Star Trek movie in the theaters since about 1983?

I can't friggin wait! I'm not worried about the cast at all! These guys are young enough to make ten movies! I'll be there the first day! Then, it's Blu-Ray city baby!!!!

The whole cast looks younger than me.

And heres the deal, they are romulans, from the future, trying to destroy earth, or the federation, or whatever they are always trying to do, then kirk will come along, someone disposable will die, then kirk will bonk someone, then there will be a battle, then kirk will save the day, and all is right with the world.

Then we will cutaway with some sinister music in a dark room and find out who else is behind all this.

Its all formulaic, the only thing we can really hope for is some kickass effects and explosions.

Wont even be able to get any nudity out of it.

On another note, I am somewhat interested in this movie. It is supposed to be about when Kirk and Spock first met. I do have some reservations about the cast though. Every time I see Zachary Quinto in the movie, all I can picture is the evil Sylar from Heroes not Spock. And what's with casting Harold (and Kumar goes to White Castle) as a young Sulu? Maybe I'll just wait for the video release instead.

Grew up watching ST on tv w/ dad so I'll at least be taking my sons. I never stayed a huge fan of it all but it looks like it will entertain.

The whole crew is going to be much younger, early teens like.

I have this theory, you tend to watch movies and associate with the next stage of life, you are always preparing mentally for the next step of life, and thus, like to associate movies with that.

Who watches TV shows about kids in high school? Middle school kids who want to associate with being older, movies about college and drunken debauchery are often eaten up by the high school getting near graduation stage kids, what do college kids target for their relaxation entertainment, well it ain't movies about drunken college exploits...............

I feel that this movie because of the age of all the actors is really trying to target mid teens aged kids, trying to appeal to a younger audience brings them a new audience that can potentially grow old with the series.

Lets face it, if you were watching star trek in the 60s, your old now, you can give paramount another 40 years of fan devotion, because, lets face it, your not going to live that long.

Also, I am a pragmatist, not a cynic, there is a difference.

Alright now that the movie has been out for most of a week who all has gone to see it?

Went this afternoon with a buddy of mine and while I had mentioned I wasn't real enthused about it after sitting thru the movie I have to admit it wasn't bad. Most of the nit-picky stuff was explained in some of the plot developments so I can live with this one (plus the female Orion cadet at Starfleet Academy was a hottie :D ).

And it's nice to see that you can still count on red shirts to be expendable ;)

I saw it and thought it was a good movie. Don't get too caught up in pointing out differences with the original ST and you should enjoy it.

It will be interesting to see if they have sequels, but that should be determined by how much it makes.

I saw it on an IMAX screen, and it was not that much different from a normal screen. I thought the price of $15 was a little steep. Save a few bucks and skip the IMAX.

Saw it tonight. I loved it except......

Chekov character sucked. At least get someone close to looking like the original (Walter Koenig). Looks like he tried too hard to speak English with a Russian accent. Same goes for Sulu & Scotty. While I love ST as a whole, they use the dang travel back in time stuff way too much. I love Leonard Nemoy, but bringing him back from the future....not so great.

They failed the original story line for Christopher Pike (The Cage - Star Trek pilot episode) and I did not like the new bridge. It was way more advanced yet clunkier than the original show (OS) Enterprise. The lower decks were more neaderthal than the OS, which was good but less advanced looking than the Enterprise series.

The guy that played Bones did an outstanding job and Young Spock was great also. They could have found a better look for Spock's dad. Mark Lenard's look was specific (even though he played a Romulan Commander in the OS then played Spock's dad).

Romulan physical appearance followed the last ST:TNG movie look. Did not like that. Classic hair and no tats is the way to go.
