Me and my gf are both animal people, her more than me because she volunteers for a wildlife clinic, racoons, groundhogs, squirrels, opossums... Saturday were driving and there is an american bulldog puppy on the side of the road. shes clean, healthy, and very happy. She jumps in the truck and we run to the vet. No microchip, no tags, and not fixed. So we took her home made signs, called every place we could and I put an add in craigslist. I have a 6 year old great dane, hes not getting any younger and this puppy is a bit much for him, she jumps up and pushes off him and knocks him over, not good for a big old dogs hips so she can't stay. We called a pit/ambull rescue close to the house, she can't house him but knows someone that can she won't be back until tuesday. She gave us a kennel for her, which she doesn't need unless she's unsupervised. She is house broken, crate trained, sits, friendly to dogs, cats, and children. She's just a 4 legged puppy wrecking ball. Tuesday comes, Lady calls at noon "You got my dog" described her and told me her name...Finally a name atleast. She says she is at work and will call when she gets off. I called an cancelled with the foster family, 8pm rolls around nada word. I called her, goes straight to voice mail "I broke my phone a few days ago, leave a message" she called from that phone. Me "come get your dog, we can meet somewhere." 9:30pm- called her again, rings until voicemail. ME- I'm sorry I can't watch your dog anymore, if you can call me before I give her to the foster family then shes yours, if not she will go to a loving household.

I'm just gonna call the foster family tomorrow and get her out of my house as fast as possible not because she's trouble, but because this lady obviously doesn't want her back, didn't even know when she ran away. If she was looking for her, she would have found her sat, sun, or mon. If the dog goes to a foster family, she will be spayed and chipped, and the lady will have to eat the cost to get her back. She wouldn't drive 10 minutes to get her why would she pay 150 bucks. Now i just have to figure out legal issues. I'm no dog watcher and as far as I'm concerned, when she didn't call she abandoned her at my house. If I give her to a foster family then she can get her from them, she just has to jump though the hoops of adopting her dog back. Can she sue me because I gave her dog to someone? Why couldn't she just have called me and said "Oh my god you found my dog, I'll be over when I get off work" and shown up. No, I get "You got my dog" like a stole her out of her yard and am withholding her...I HATE STUPID PEOPLE!!!

That's nuts letigre87! Man, if someone found my dog, I'd have called and said, where are you...I'll be right there. Screw work!

Give that dog to the adoption family. Give it a good home for once.

phluffhead, you should have called animal control. I've done the same when neighbors leave their dogs out in the heat. That kind of thing will get you in trouble here in VA Beach. This is a VERY dog-friendly place to live.

If she shows up to pick up the dog, make sure its not there. Punch her in the FACE and press tresspassing charges. You wont have the dog and you get to punch her in the FACE!!!

To bad you weren't closer, my next dog will most likely be an American bulldog. Mine has gotten lose a few times, drives me nuts until I find them or they come home. Some people don't need animals, or kids for that matter.

I talked to the head animal control guy, he said as long as I don't hide sammy then I'm not stealing her. I told him that was never my intention but I can't make her come and get her dog. Since all dog "problems" come though him, he will tell her to eat one and she knows where to find her dog, I have no oblibligation to keep her until she finds it convenient. Meeting with foster family soon, I still haven't heard from the owner. I will be kinda sad to see her go, she is fun to rough house with, nothing like a flying puppy bomb from across the room to say pay attention to me.

Side note: New head of animal control, kinda creepy, dark sense of humor
Me: She is such a sweet dog I can't give her to anyone that could put her to sleep.
Him: Someone like me (evil laugh)
Me: Um...
Him: Thats a joke, when I took over we became a low kill facility, we only euthenise if they are too sick or aggressive. we send animals to rescues if we are out of room.
Me: I stick with the rescue but thats great

friendly and helpful just got a dark sense of humor and proud he turned it to a low kill.

I wouldn't say that. I think he was just trying to make light out of what used to be a very grim scenario for the dogs. He wouldn't take over the facility and change it from Extremely high to low if he was a sicko, I think he just has a very off beat sense of humor that comes with the job. when I was in iraq the mortuary affairs guys would BBQ right next to a burned up Iraqi semi (with people inside). When you see something everyday, you get kinda used to it. Man those guys were wierd to talk to. "Whats in that bag?" "Chicken" "Well whats he got in that bag?" "a foot  want some chicken?" "No thanks man, I just ate breakfast 10 hours ago"
