With the sale of Hummer to China it looks like the US military will have to find a new car to drive. So will that dude on CSI Miami. They will have to go back to the Jeep it was always the best choice. Many people don't know this but the US government as are many state and local agencies are authorized to only by domestic vehicles. Who remembers the show the Rat Patrol! Yeah Jeep! |

The HMMWV has been in phase-out for about 2 years, with a much heavier vehicle with more armor planned as a replacement, so you're a little behind the times on that. I believe OshKosh Truck is the primary mfr. for the new vehicles. (I used to work in the military office that was associated with the program) THe HMMWV in up-armored mode weighs in well above 12,000 pounds (think about 6" thick bullet-proof glass for a moment). Even with suspension upgrades, most of them are squatting on their suspensions, and are wearing out much faster than originally intended. I'm sure Jeep will contribute some vehicles for utility use, but don't expect to see them playing 'rat patrol' again. |

That's why they made the J8 Wranglers. Of course it is not heavily armored as the Humvee. |

Ah yes, but isn't the dream of driving back on base to see Willy's Jeeps crusin back and forth across every street, a fleet of them parked in front of the commissary. All dressed in military green with no suspension and bricks for seats, oh what I wouldn't give for a day like that, or just to own one myself. |

Hummer /= humvee While GM owns (for the moment) Hummer, the HMMWV (humvee) used by the military is and always has been built by AM General. The sale of the Hummer brand does not affect the military at all. |

That only effects H12/H3's and will not effect the H1's used by the military since they are built by AM General that sold the name "Hummer" to GM and not the rights to the H1 which is under military contract still. The civilian H1 was discontinued 2 years ago for greater military production and not due to contract ending at all.

AM General = AMC = the Humvee was designed by Jeep. H2's are GMT 900's, like the Tahoe, et al H3's are GMT 355's like the Colorado/Canyon twins If GM can't make a go of selling their own product, how will anyone else? I'm betting the Chinese really only want the rights/image, not the vehicles. The bubble has burst for Hummer. They also want GM to sell off Saturn. Again, the Astra & Aura are European GM products. Is the Saturn name worth enough to a buyer? How could they turn a profit buying products from GM & reselling them as Saturns? |

The front end looks like something Dodge would use for like an Avenger or something... Now that I think about it, that is one pissed off Stratus lol |

Got to love those South African Casspir-based mine protected vehicle designs (the Buffalo and the Cougar)!!!!! I am actually reading a book right now on the SWA/Angolan Border War where the predecessor of these (the Casspir) played such an important role: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casspir |
