I heard the tornado alarm go off and I went to my porch to look at the clouds. I stood there and watched a tornado form from nothing. I ran to get my camera.

It touched down about 8-10 miles from my condo at a large shopping mall area.

1:55pm Sunday 7 June 2009.

glad you your jeep and everyone elses person are all ok!

couple years ago right after i got medically discharged from the Corps, i was at myrtle beach, half asleep on the beach, woke up from some little girl sayin 'Skuze me sir, whats that funny cloud?'

i opened my eyes and it was a water spout

I don't have my desktop put together so I can't get to my own photos but this is the same waterspout/tornado

back when I was in highschool i was campin with my brothers and our girlfriends and one came over us during the night and we were lucky it wasn't on the ground because when it touched down about 2 miles away it ripped 1/2-1 mile wide sections to shreds, a good dozen people died

i ran a chainsaw for days on end, a year or two later, i think it was Hugo came through and i had the unfortunate circumstance of being on the NCDOT's emergency personnel list and ended up driving a front end loader during the hurricane pushing fallen trees out of the roadway

mother nature's a beast

Dude I got ya beat, it hailed for like 40 mins here, shredded my trees and my moms plants(I get to look after them while they move).

Ended up with about 2 inches of hail on the ground.

You all are more used to that crap then we are I guess, the one tornado that was remotely close to us kinda freaked me out. Large hail is common and all, but not that nasty....

Yeah, but he had the large stuff... mostly quarter sized mixed with golf ball sized.... and the occasional base base here and there...... our plants and roof where hit hard... had a few holes in the shingles and one of the vents on the roof looks like a base ball bat beat it silly

Isn't hail fun  ,that's how my KJ ended up orange.$5500 damage from softball size hail.

Growing up in South Dakota hail and tornado's where very common. When I was about 13 I was watching a F4 tearing a path right towards our house, the base was over a mile wide but it dissipated about a 2 miles from our house.

We had three tornadoes touchdown back in 2003 just south of the base (Buckley). Tornadoes are not as common as the Midwest, but they do happen here.

Softball sized hail is very common in South Dakota. The Wally World parking lot got the worst, the hail was bouncing off the ground and denting there undercarriages.

lol, i won't claim any softball sized hail, but we've had golf ball size, and with any significant winds that's as damaging as anything else. A town in the mountains near here had a micro burst with hail, and other than a couple of newer buildings it flattened every tree and house, with similar destruction to what I would say a tornado is capable of. They're still having problems today, all the flattened trees are allowing the mountain to sluff and slide down into the town.

If that was true, then the Earth would have been knocked out of orbit from the pounding.
