| Post subject: | Why do I get to deal with these people? |
Ok so I had a Yakima SpaceBooster for sale on CL for $150, I had a guy interested who wanted it come saturday. I told him I had people interested in it and I would not hold it for him. Low and behold someone else emailed me, called me up, and came over right away. No hassle, no drama, sold. Me being a courtious seller email this other guy back and let him know its been sold, to which he emails back: Douchbag wrote: wow. thanks for wasting my time and being a complete ******* to me and my friend. **** you very much and have a lovely weekend. Zach To which I send no reply, then this evening after house hunting all day I get back to the hotel, and check my email, to which he sent another email: Douchbag wrote: i am a courteous person and wanted you to know that I reported you to craigslist.com as a ****ty seller. have good mosh pitting. i hope this reflects on you. thanks again for wasting my time.
Zach (oh no, he reported me to craigslist.com!) So my question is, should should I switch to Mobile 1 in my Jeep or keep using the diesel rated Delo that I have been using? And if anyone cares, this is the email chain leading up to this: i am a courteous person and wanted you to know that I reported you to craigslist.com as a ****ty seller. have good mosh pitting. i hope this reflects on you. thanks again for wasting my time. I may be here or I may need to goto colorado springs. If I do goto colorado springs I would probably be back here sunday mid day. I should know pretty soon if I need to goto Colorado Springs. -Sam From: roofdog14@hotmail.com To: zlusterdenver@hotmail.com Subject: RE: Yakima SpaceBooster - $150 (Fort Collins) Date: Thu, 25 Jun 2009 09:42:09 -0500 sam, don't know if you got my message yesterday, but obviously my buddy didn't make it to retrieve the box. what does your schedule look like so that i can make it up there from denver to get it? thank! Zach From: zlusterdenver@hotmail.com To: roofdog14@hotmail.com Subject: RE: Yakima SpaceBooster - $150 (Fort Collins) Date: Tue, 23 Jun 2009 11:55:04 -0700 Zach, That is the mount in the most closed position. When its closed like in those photos it will clamp down onto something about an inch thick. Saturday would probably work for me. Though I cannot guarantee I will still have it. I have had quite a bit of interest in it and would prefer to sell it sooner rather than later and at this point I am not willing to hold it for someone. So caveat emptor, though don't think it will likely sell this week. -Sam From: roofdog14@hotmail.com To: zlusterdenver@hotmail.com Subject: RE: Yakima SpaceBooster - $150 (Fort Collins) Date: Tue, 23 Jun 2009 13:25:33 -0500 sam, is there any way that you can take a picture of the quick grip clamps and measure it? i could come up to ft. fun on saturday at the soonest. let me know. thanks! Zach From: zlusterdenver@hotmail.com To: roofdog14@hotmail.com Subject: RE: Yakima SpaceBooster - $150 (Fort Collins) Date: Tue, 23 Jun 2009 11:04:45 -0700 Zach, It's about 20" wide, 14" tall at the tallest point, and about 7.5' Long. I have a key for it. I will take $100 if its a quick and easy transaction. -Sam From: roofdog14@hotmail.com To: zlusterdenver@hotmail.com Subject: RE: Yakima SpaceBooster - $150 (Fort Collins) Date: Tue, 23 Jun 2009 12:42:09 -0500 sorry to ask more questions... do you know the dimensions? cubic foot storage capacity? (i looked on the yakima website and they no longer sell the space booster) i am assuming that you have the key(s)? would you take $100? Zach From: zlusterdenver@hotmail.com To: roofdog14@hotmail.com Subject: RE: Yakima SpaceBooster - $150 (Fort Collins) Date: Tue, 23 Jun 2009 10:05:08 -0700 I've had the box for about 6 months, I think overall it is about a year to a year and a half old, it does not show much UV-sun wear as older boxes do. The box still opens and closes fine, the crack doesn't effect that. My plan was to scuff the area on the inside of the box, and apply some JB weld over the crack on the inside to make sure it never spread or became a problem. It has a single lock, you put the key in, turn it, and you can open it, then you close the box, turn the key back, and you can remove the key. The only way the box can be fully closed is if it is locked. The only way it can be open is with the key in. I am flexible on the price, but sorry I have no need for a ski rack, I'm not a skier. -Sam From: roofdog14@hotmail.com To: zlusterdenver@hotmail.com Subject: RE: Yakima SpaceBooster - $150 (Fort Collins) Date: Tue, 23 Jun 2009 11:33:18 -0500 sam, thanks for the quick response! the description is perfect - i don't want to have to deal with the metal bars and wing nuts. about how old is the box? how much does the crack effect the lid when opening and closing? does it have locks? are you flexible on the price? i have a yakima ski rack that i would be willing to put into the deal if you need one. cheers! Zach From: zlusterdenver@hotmail.com To: roofdog14@hotmail.com Subject: RE: Yakima SpaceBooster - $150 (Fort Collins) Date: Tue, 23 Jun 2009 09:07:35 -0700 It has a quick grip mount. I can only describe it as a hinged "C" that locks in place over your bars. Should be pretty universal fit type of thing. Though obvously I cannot guaruntee it will fit your application. -sam From: roofdog14@hotmail.com To: sale-znufc-1234538765@craigslist.org Subject: Yakima SpaceBooster - $150 (Fort Collins) Date: Tue, 23 Jun 2009 10:54:24 -0500 ** CRAIGSLIST ADVISORY --- AVOID SCAMS BY DEALING LOCALLY ** Avoid: wiring money, cross-border deals, work-at-home ** Beware: cashier checks, money orders, escrow, shipping ** More Info: http://www.craigslist.org/about/scams.html do you still have this? how does the box attach to the crossbars? is it a quick-grip handle or a nut & bolt system? thanks! Sounds to me like you gave him plenty of chances to come through and he didn't. I think he was wasting your time by not getting it picked up when he said. |

Was he the first to respond to your ad? You did lead him into thinking it would not sell and he offered to buy it on Saturday. I lean towards Zach on this one....if he was the first to respond with saying he wanted to buy it before any others. Not when to buy it but first to request buying it. |

He was not, I had already had one guy come look at it who took a quick glance at it and said "I'll pass for now." And had maybe 3-4 others email me about it prior to him. Point being, I told him I had interest in it and would not hold it for him. After that his "friend" eventually got in contact with me that evening to pick it up. (this next part will make sense to you northern colorado guys) His friend lived in loveland(at least thats what he said), which is spitting distance away from fort collins. His friend wanted me to "meet him halfway" at Centerra(not halfway, just as far south as loveland, and also 15 mins further east) and bring the thing with me. Now at this point, I have to drive half an hour to meet someone. I have to remove all my gear from my rooftop box, remove my rooftop box, and install this one, and bring it down to someone. All for 66% of my original price. I feel that I gave him fair warning that I would not hold it for him. He was not the first to ask. Even if he was I would not trust him to come through. Too many times I have been burned by someone that wanted to come get something, but could not for a few days, meanwhile I have to turn away other potential customers from a purchase. Why should I burn a sale now on the hope that you will come through later? A bird in the hand and all......basically, its first come first serve. Quick and easy sale to me means you don't waste my time by having your friend call me and try to get me to bring it to him. $100 for quick and easy means you drive up after you get off work at 5pm, we do this transaction, and you get home at 9pm after a long day with your new toy. You want a good deal you need to jump on it, not hope a seller will hold onto it for you. Especially not when the seller tells you they will not hold onto it. |

I sell and buy a lot from craigslist and I will always put " First person to show up with money in hand gets it" on things I'm selling for that same reason...I've held out before and missed out on a sale and ended up selling if for less. |

Sir Sam ---ITS BUSINESS Its all who can come out with the $$$ first-- I work for a truck rental rental company and we have a lot of inqiuries and we ALWAYS suggest a reservation and they do not and then come in on a high demand day= all trucks are reserved and they are UPSET they can't be accommodated and I tell then sorry its business! Then they turn me in to our customer service !!! Don't feel bad--let it go---You are very typical of folks in this forum- genuinely decent, honest types looking to help all they can --and then you run into these low lifes-- Roland |

When I sold my taurus I began telling people I would not hold it...due to about 8 different people looking at it and saying "I'll be back in the morning with the money, the bank has to be open". None of them came back. The only one to buy was a guy that showed up with cash. Cash is king, promises mean nothing. |

Once you told him that you would not hold it for anyone, it's on him to get there with the cash. If this guy couldn't get it done, his loss. I'm with you on this one. You know what they say, Cash talks, bs walks. |

Here is where you need to be careful with what you say. though don't think it will likely sell this week. While you said it is first come first served, you basically told him he has time to get it by the end of the week. You gave a personal opinion and many people key in on those things. In the future, do not make statements like that, to eliminate doubt/question. Leave personal opinions out of a business dealing. |

Yes I suppose, and I thought it was a fair and honest assesment. What I didn't want to sound like was a used car dealer saying "Well you gotta move now on this, I can't even promise it will be here at the end of the day, just step right into my office and we will sign the papers." |
