Post subject:  A conflict of conscience

It is said that all that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. As a good man, can one stay involved with something that has developed a cancer at it's core and pretend that nothing has happened? I'm not talking about forum rules and someone being banned for breaking them, it goes way deeper than that. The thing I've seen this evening shows a brutality that could only come from the most warped mind.

I've been involved with the LOST community full time since 2007. I've made some excellent friends through this forum, friends I am happy to say I've wheeled with all over this country. I did my best to contribute by supporting LOST Safari and putting myself into every post on this forum. I was so looking forward to starting a new thread announcing my 2000th post but due to recent events, that will have to be postponed indefinitely. As of the time I hit the "submit" button, I will no longer be participating in the LOST community as long as this cancer is allowed to fester. I will not attend another Safari although I will keep my commitments to ECS nor will I be posting until such time as this person does the honorable thing and steps down. I've never been sure who actually owns this forum but this person(s) really needs to take a look at who is in place and charged with its operation.

Since this person has the power to delete this post, there's a good chance no one will get to read it. If you do get to read it before it's deleted please set the record straight if crazy stories about me start surfacing.

My friends know how to get in touch with me.

JL, take a break for a while, I know how you feel. We always don't agree with how a board is ran, etc, but that's the way it happens. I help get an Astro-Safari board/forum started, spent hours transferring files from another board, was even a mod. Then the head guy decides to go an ban someone, okay, guy was 50% wrong, but none the less, he was a crotchety old man set in his ways, cut him some slack. Anyway, I won't be back on that forum, probably never, but only to sell my van. I'm also taking a break from my fbody forum, seems no matter what I say on there, someone has to make neg comment about it... I've been on there since 02, spent a lot of time since the beginning, but need a break. Life goes in cycles, we all need to step away for a while.
Just keep in touch with those few who are your friends and come back when you feel ready.... don't let it eat at you cause it will.

I am sorry you feel this way. Unfortunately, the majority of members on here only see the surface of a forum and not what is going on behind it.

You and all of the others complaining about a certain person getting banned forget the rules of this forum. Nothing has changed. He wasn't the first person banned from LOST and most likely won't be the last. There are always people looking to try and push the limits and they step beyond those limits. A warning is given. Step over it again, you get a second warning. Keep doing it and you will get banned. It is simple as that. I do not understand why people cannot understand that.

If you have a house guest spouting off profanities in front of your children in your own home, you would give the guest a warning right? At what point do you say enough is enough if they keep doing it, or go much farther than that? Do you ignore it? If you find out that they are doing it on purpose, would you just ignore it? My guess is no or you are a total whimp. One of the two options.

You have been pushing the limits by intentionally provoking the mods/admins. That is just as bad. An instigator. We have met and you seem like a great guy in person. Same was said by others for the person that was banned, but on here, there seems to be a differnt side once pulled up to a monitor and keyboard. Remember, text cannot always show emotions such as humor and joking around vs seriousness and condescending remarks unless you state it or use emoticons. Each individual sees written text in a differnt way and take it differently, which can lead to many misunderstandings.

I have seen the backside of this forum, have met some other mods and admins, and there is more to all of it than just making a quick decision. Jokes are made behind the scenes just as they are done out in front but as far as I know the banning process is reviewed seriously.

I have been out of line a couple times on here and was upset by some decisions made (mainly by certain members - not mods/admins) but I decided that it is not worth raising my BP over and made corrections (first rant was in 2005 about constant promotion of a specific rock rail product and the second was about religious avatars and sigs). I spoke my peace and LET IT GO.

Now I usually just toss in "useless" posts as one member put it. Humor or sarcasm usually, and some people are just too serious in life to just sit back and laugh about it or move on to the next post.

Life is short, LOST is a little place on cyber Earth. Is it worth getting our briefs/boxers/boxer-briefs all bunched up? Not really. For those of you going Comamndo, umm....I don't want to know.

And for the Aliens hiding behind the moon waiting to attack, your plan for causing cyber chaos will fail.

That's my personal comment.

I'm sorry, but this is just inappropriate. He was just letting people know that he was taking a break and in no way warranted accusations or indirect threats.

JL, I think it's time for a trip to Moab

Durangotang, We wil have to agree to disagree because his post is a statement about a specific admin and saying he feels that LOST is cancerous as long as that admin stays an admin.

In essence, it is a political statement. If he was just saying he was taking a break, as you say, he did not need to make those statements.

Why beat around the bush? If you have an issue with someone, contact them directly.

Since I am obviously the person JL is referring to, he needs to contact me, not make posts like this in the open forum.

There are two sides to ever story. I'd be glad to share my side with anyone that asks. If you are not interested, then please refrain from making accusations that are completely unfounded. Truth is you only have one side of the story JL, take the time to talk to me and I'll be glad to explain where I am coming from. Don't hide behind posts like this. Please contact me directly.

I really don't see the need to tiptoe around all things politics and be so pc about every little thing so we don't offend peoples tiny little feelings.

Let the man say his piece Tokyojoe.

Good luck JL

Thank you for your input, Callaway. I hope my post didn't hurt people's tiny feelings either. I should have said "rhetoric" instead of "statement," though.

Wow, you guys want pissy, uptight mods? Go to Expedition Portal. The KJ forums are way more permissive, way less uptight, and rank really low on the insufferable 'P.C.' scale. To wit:

http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/showthread.php?s=7835e1bced62cb4beb05f4abbd94d468&t=24507

Anything even remotely controversial gets deleted and the thread closed, and then one of the moderators posts a completely inflammatory politically slanted article that you have to tip-toe around so your post doesn't get deleted.

Or for an example of the opposite tone of this forum, which remains relatively calm with little in the way on insults and name calling (that's a plus in my book), try Pirate4x4.
Some famous flaming going on there from time to time.
I don't really know the individuals involved in this squabble, so I don't have a dog in this fight (sorry Michael Vick), but it's not unusual to need to take a break from a cyber-neighborhood from time to time. Shoot, vacations are even necessary from work. Take some time if you need, don't needle folks until you cross a line or force them to. In a month things will seem differently.
Or as an old proverb goes "when viewed from the moon, it all looks the same."
