Looks like they get around about as well as water moccasins. Just another reason to stay in the boat :D

We used to see floating copperheads all the time in TN. We had the same thing happen to us with one of those previously mentioned copperheads, came at our boat. Just a little itty bitty one but he actually ended up following the boat to shore and it bit the end of my dad's boot, it held on and we chopped his head off. Aggressive little suckers. :?

I gotta say that's one HUGE rattler.... I seen um swim straight across the Missouri River before, and in high current. Anyone that says snakes can't swim or cross rapid streams, tell um their full of the brown stuff.

Oh yea man, copperheads got a real 'tude!
Most snakes will get out of the way when the hear you coming. Nope, not copperheads. Pain in the neck. I last had a big run-in with a little baby one. It kept rearing up and striking at me, and I kinda dismissed it until I realized it had fangs... I was doing some work at the time... claw hammer right to the head of the nasty beast put an untimely end to its existence.

That is some crazyness right there.
Water moccasins are crazier in the water. They will swim crazy fast towards you and chase you down even when you get out of the water!

I always run those suckers over with my lawn mower when they're in my yard.

Imagine my surprise when I almost ran one over a couple nights ago, on a mtn bike trail. Was flying down an s-curve, doing warp 3.. and I see this rope-looking shape coming up in front. Stopped just in case it was a rope, and don't want it getting tangled in my gears... Got off, got real close, and SNAP! This evil little 3ft black snake was hissing his butt off! Coulda lost my hand or leg. Yes, it was dark. (Always darker in the woods at night)

Not just no but HELL No. I would not be using my rod to poke that bugger. I would be more inclined to shoot the thing, lol

We saw a few water moccasins so far in kayak trips we made in Guadalupe and San Marcos :-) Makes you get real careful when you approach sweepers.

My dad caught a whole nest of Water Moccasins one time.. they were on this tree log and when he reeled it in  He chunked the whole rod and reel into the water went and got his shotgun and blew them away  He told me they ruin a pond because they will eat the baby fish or something now I don't know if thats true but I was only 6 at the time! :P

Thing is though I live in SW Oklahoma where Rattlesnakes are bad, we have a rattlesnake hunt here every year, but I have never seen one ever swim.. that's freakin amazing..

Ugggg. I hated those things when I lived in Texas. We would always have to be careful when fishing or riding our ATV's. Dad would always bring the shotgun with him just for that reason.
