I've seen some things on this guy before... so far as I know, there's just the one (so far), but it has demonstrated the self-righting response to being kicked, pushed, etc. very successfully several times.
Where I used to work (an Army Research Lab), lunch time walks to the cafeteria would often cross paths with some new toy being played about... small robot buggies, flying cameras, self-erecting tents (not the little kind, the kind you can park a big truck under), etc.
Fun stuff.

That was the first thing I thought of.

The second - was how friggin' boring that video was.

Doesn't it?
First such tent I saw was big enough to park several school buses inside.
There is some really nifty stuff being made. War is always like that... brings out the creative streak in people, thinking up better ways to kill each other.

They just took my jeep and overlaid a picture of some robot on it to make it look like they built something cool

Ok, here goes. . . .

Why spend all the money on that thing when you can just buy a warm-blooded mule? If it's good enough for Juan Valdez to bring me my coffee, it's good enough for me. . .

put it this way

i know guys that would not be medically retired from the corps if we had something similar to that thing to take some weight off while going up or down mountainous terrain

when the avg infantryman weighs 280lbs with all of their gear, it doesn't take many bad steps, and sometimes only one, to blow a disc in your back and shred your sciatic nerve

OK, I got the answer to that...
during WW2, the Army in the Pacific attempted to use mule trains for logistics/supply in order to support troops in the Phillipines and other large-scale island invasions. Total failure. The animals died at a rate that made attempting to provide supplies almost impossible. There was an Army in WW2 that used mules as its entire supply/logistics transport mode though. The Germans. That didn't work out so well either. The Army War College has a huge after-action study that details the lessons learned out of all that.
Juan Valdez, while a good advert image, doesn't work in conditions wars get fought in. Not too mention the whole 'stubborn' thing with trying to get mules to work.

280lbs for assault loadouts is aprox 80ish lbs of gear that you're expected to be able to run/jump etc in and it's typically nothing but ammo/food/water and what youre wearing

but yeah, day packs get heavy quick, but you typically don't bring your sleeping system, and all the other crap that's in your 782 to combat , that stuff stays at the fob if there is one

at 80lbs all day door to doorin will wear you out, try to do it with that 200lb day pack on and it'll get ya killed
