Many people buy their Jeeps because they want the rugged, dependable image that comes with the Jeep brand, even if they never intend to take their Jeep off road, or off highway. They are missing the best part of o...wning a Jeep, the fun and freedom of going places that a passenger car can’t go. Exploring new and hard to reach places. Visiting Historical sites and remote places of natural beauty. A lot of people have never experienced driving off highway and many more see the extreme activities in the Jeep enthusiast magazines and think, whoa! That is not for me! Although extreme driving gets much of the press, the vast majority of Jeepers seldom experience extreme off road driving,…at least not on purpose…When I met Tina, now my wife, she was driving a vehicle of questionable condition, and origin... A Jeep Story from MoparNorm Layton (Pt. 2):
...When I met Tina, now my wife, she was driving a vehicle of questionable condition, and origin. After several mountain trips in my CJ 7, She had contracted the “Jeep Thing” and she soon bought her own Jee...p. Within months her co-worker had a Jeep, then her co-worker’s daughter, the daughters boyfriend and another co-worker all had purchased Jeeps and then her mom, (now my mother-in-law), bought two!
A Liberty for a daily driver and a TJ for trail riding. With our growing group of Jeepers, we now we needed a place to use them. Within a two hours drive of the LA Basin, are many miles of unmaintained mining and logging roads, designated as Jeep trails by the US Forest Service.
These roads are the perfect place to teach, learn and gain the experience and skills required to become a confident Jeep driver. Part of any responsible Jeeping is the respect of our public lands, Tread Lightly and obey the local rules to ensure that these trails stay open for our use and for future Jeepers.
