Not only have they had some of the largest recalls in U.S. history, but now the government has taken the unprecedented step of forcing them to stop selling most of their vehicles here as they are unsafe. 5 production plants are being shut down.

I, for one, love it. :pepper:

Toyota stopped - not the government
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100127/ap_on_bi_ge/us_toyota_recall

The parts with problems are made in the US

and the 6 plants shutdown are North American

We were just told that GM is offering an additional $1000 on top of current incentives to help Toyota owners out of their leases.

To toyota's specs, just like the KJ's OEM LBJ's are made by MOOG to Jeeps specs. It's not the manufacturers fault for a bad design or bad programming.

Until the problem is identified, you're operating on preconceived ideas.
It could be a design, it could be a manufacturing problem.
they stopped because they don't know.

All the domestics needed to do is build cars that Americans wanted to buy.... they didn't and Toyota did. There's no conspiracy (well yeah there is now the Fed runs the auto biz) just a free market economy. I drive a KJ because JL Audio wouldn't let me get an FJ. I have no problems with the KJ with the best feature being it's paid for but I'd still like to have owned the FJ.

I believe every domestic has had a recall at one point or another that had the statement "and may cause fire"; I know my KJ has.

Guy at sheets stopped me the other day and was talking to me about my KJ, I promptly started looking over a FJ looking for the same "tell-tell, that's going to cause problems later on probably" and yeah, no grease fittings

FJ's having any balljoint problems? The suspension didn't seem as "Stuffed" as ours nor did it look like the clearances were as tight

Then how come the obamanator's administration is taking credit for the forcing the stoppage? Toyoder has always done everything to avoid an official government action. That way they can claim that it was "floor mats" in their controlled statements. :ROTFL:

It may not be the pedal that is at fault now since the same problem is occurring in Europe also which uses the same pedal but made by a different supplier then the US built toyota's.Then you got to figure in the hybrids that are not made in the US due to EPA regulations that have the same issues so it's sounding like a computer program error.

My watercooler talks have come up with the same- that the go pedal is being sourced from different companies so the problem is up in the ECU. Bad, bad news for Toyota if that is the case......

kinda reminds me of that recall about 15ish years ago where something was screwed up to the point where when you mashed the brake it would rev wildly and send you careening through your garage door or something lol

can't remember what car manufacturer that was
