My wife and I have driven diesels for over 27 years, so we have three 5 gallon diesel jugs, but no 5 gallon gasoline jugs. I picked up my Generac GP7000E yesterday to help out when I have a power outage or need to do some personal portable welding. Great US made generator, it started immediately and runs great, but I can't stand the new gasoline jug spouts. It is a good idea to wait 15 minuets to switch over to generator power so you don't screw up your refrigerators, freezers, or AC units by having high pressure in the system. But, taking a half hour to put 5 gallons of gasoline into the tank is stupid. Loading the generator onto the hitch rack only to fill up at the gas station is also stupid. I could design an illegal high flow spout, more like the old spouts, or pour the gas out of the jug with out the spout (what I did). but if there is something I can buy or smuggle home the next time I go to Canada or Mexico, that would be great. Any ideas? Photo of my Generator with the two jugs that have micro spouts that suck: ![]() Thanks in advance. I was inspired walking through ACE Hardware, solution in Fabrication section. viewtopic.php?f=59&t=59719&p=663383#p663383 |

Write your congresscritters and senatecritters and raise hell about the problem. Look for older cans;they are still out there. Some smaller/rural (or surprisingly big city/oldneighborhood) hardware stores may still have the odd Wedco/Briggs and Statton NATO style can (with the cams to hold the spout on, NOT a threaded spout; thats the new EPA mandated downgraded can). Last one I bought a few months ago was $55 with a spout. You can also look for Scepter brand MFCs, which are the plastic cans used by the military. Spouts are also hard to find thank to the epa, but they work well. Expect to pay $70 and up new, half that for used, plus $25 -$50 for a spout. also consider if you can use a siphon. If you can set the can above the genset tank filler, a super-siphon could be an excellent substitute for a spout. |
