Howdy everyone,

It's been a while since I've been on the boards here...things got a little hectic for me towards the end of the spring semester with school, and now I've just been working my arse off to try and recoup some funds from all of that money I shouldn't have spent...oops!

Anyway, I took the fundamentals of engineering exam back in April and was fairly convinced that I failed it. I hardly studied for it and thanks to the party animals that live next door to me I only got like 3 hours of sleep prior to the 8 hour exam the next day.

As it turns out I passed!!...logged into my account online, clicked the exam results link and was astounded to see "Exam Result: PASS". If you are not familiar with the exam its split into two parts, a 4 hour morning session based on general engineering topics and a 4 hour afternoon session based on topics specific to your major, in my case civil engineering. Also...they don't tell you what you scored, just pass/fail...which is fine with me at this point lol!

Just figured I'd share!!

-Ryan

Congratulations!
I'll be taking it within the next couple years for Electrical Engineering. Not excited that it is eight hours long, but hopefully the salary after the exam will make up for the torture of all the studying lol.

Congrats! The FE is not an easy task to pass. Most have to take it at least twice to pass it. I elected not to take it 16 yrs ago when I was graduating since I never planned to get my PE stamp. It is not really needed in my area of the ME field. I know there is now way I could pass the test now. I have forgotten so much since then.

Thanks guys!!

Some advice to you guys who are planing on taking it in the near future, go online to the NCEES website and order a copy of the "Supplied Reference Handbook", its around 20$ shipped. Make sure you familiarize yourself with that manual, almost everything you need is already in there...its just a matter of finding it and understanding how its presented to you. It is available online for free...but scrolling through a PDF that long is pretty much useless if you ask me, especially because you're going to have the actual book, not the PDF, on exam day. You should also start getting used to using calculator that you plan on using on exam day, I forced myself to put my TI-89 away and just use the Casio I got for the FE...used it for homework and class exams, etc. Good luck!

when you get a job, please be sure to post locations of any bridges you design...I want to avoid them at all costs. LOL

seriously though, congrats...I remember the good ol days of weighing out the pros and cons of "hhmmmmm, do I study right now ORRRR, do I go next door and hang with the buddies with the keg?" LOL It was always rationalized with a "I'll just go and have a couple beers...and study after" followed by "holy crap I'm almost late for my test!!" the next morning! gosh those were good times....way to go man.

Congrats man!

I passed it a year ago, I was kinda the same way, thought I bombed it. The day before had been our edays for senior design so I was pretty wiped out, and to top it off I had done basically zero studying for it. Did the morning session, had lunch, came back and my head just wasn't in it at all, didn't feel confident about any answers etc. I kinda did what I could, guessed at the rest, and walked out after a little over an hour in the afternoon session(ended up being the second person to leave), thought I was totally phucked, but when I got the results in my email it turned out I had passed!

Turns out the other 3 guys in my engineering senior design group that took it that day didn't pass, made me feel good.

A year ago they let you pick your afternoon topic the day of, now you have to select your topic at the time of registration, that caught a bunch of people off guard that thought you could pick your section for afternoon session the day of.

Thanks!

Congrats to you as well!

Thats funny...I'm gonna be around for classes in the fall due to some snags in scheduling and my lack of effort in classes (oops!)...so I figured I would just roll the dice this time around and get a feel for the exam knowing I would have another opportunity to take it. All of my buddies were nagging me to study and go to review sessions, didn't go to a single one and reviewed on my own for maybe a solid 3 hours the week before. Same deal for me with afternoon session...I was just tired of sitting in that darn room. I zipped through the afternoon with 2 hours left and didn't feel like being the first to get up so I went back through all of the questions and checked everything for another hour...then got up and bounced out convinced I just wasted 175$ cuz I would have to take it again. My other buddy who was the main one nagging me to study, is also a much better student than I am in literally every respect, ended up failing it. Luck of the draw I guess

One thing that many who have passed Engineering Exams forget after they get their stamp is that Gravity is Free. I have to explain to Civil PEs that the Federal Governments in both the US and Canada have yet to pass a Tax on Gravity. Not because they don't want the revenue, but they can not figure out how to tax gravity, yet. :ROTFL: :ROTFL: :ROTFL: :ROTFL: :ROTFL: :ROTFL:
Please honor Sir Isac Newton and remember. :-)r :-)r
