I gotta say.. it's sorta VW beetleish, one of the models is available with what looks to be a chrysler skyslider

they're weighin in at about 2400 , with 100hp and just under 100ft/lbs torque

the ol pinto.. one of the only cars to ever make 1 hp per mph that it would go.. 100hp, 100mph

wonder what the limiter is set at on these and if you can even hit it lol..

1.6L with 10.8:1 recommending 91 octane for 30/38 on the 5-speed manual , 6 speed autos slightly lower

http://www.fiatusa.com/en/500/specifications/

but with the economy the way it is.. priced at 15-20k .. we may see quite a few of them being driven

Fun for short trips and buzz around in I'll bet. They have a whole lot full of them up here in Toledo keep wanting to stop by and peer inside. Wouldn't take up much room in the garage at least!

If you are going to, try the Abarth model if they have it and then you will be impressed. Also they come with Diesel option 1.3l 3 cylinders and that does go (clatters a bit) but if you drive it carefully you can nearly forget to fill up for 600mls or more.

that's kinda funny

is that the diesel model?

that body styling would probably sell here quite a bit better than what they're adverting so far

there's a few differences between that and the 500 sport plastic kit wise, they seem to have a lot of mini cooperish stripes and what not available on the "build your own" portion of the site

The thing looks hideous. Would rather get the Ford Focus or the Chevy Cruze. Both get better gas mileage, around the same price, and are bigger with more room. I'm not a big fan of the Euro-trash looking tiny cars though, so I may be a bit biased.

any sentence structure that includes pinto, Fiat 500 and the word stylish - is incorrect...
unless you're trying to define an Antonym......

(not only was a Pinto ,more aerodynamic backwards, but it looked better that way)

you could probably have quirky or cult following or something like that...

I liked the one I test drove.
stick shift. very flickable. can dart through traffic like a BOSS.
just needs WAY more balls under the hood. but then I like to express my inner hoon as much as possible. :D
we'll get the Abarth variant in a year or so. and the "convertible" one is really cool. motor week had it on their show recently and the various positions of the top (not limited to just "up" and "down") give you lots of choices throughout the day.

oh and IIRC something like 70% of them sold are stick shifts. there's hope for the manual transmission yet? the Fiat 500 is the manual's savior? :-)r

gonna go out next week and test one outta curiosity

that old vw rabbit pickup i had had a lil 1.6 diesel in it and a 4 speed, it would do all of about 60mph , but it would smoke the tires through 3rd gear and like i said.. about 56-58mpg wide open all day long

all it needed was another gear and it woulda been fine

it's been said before but the lack of diesel options in the US is starting to get pretty ridiculous.. especially with them wanting to raise the avg mpgs..

I think it's a pretty cool design for what it is. A diesel option in US would be sweet for a daily driver. I enjoy my TDI as mine just don't understand why the diesels are getting worse MPG than years ago and the gas models are getting better.

Post subject:  Re: Fiat 500 = stylish pinto reborn

cause they keep stacking crap on the tailpipes trying to make them fart butterflies because people who don't understand enviro physics think black smoke is death

same thing they did to gas burners but I don't think diesel emissions equipment is operating at the same level of engine efficiency as the gassers, probably since the gassers have had a bit more time to run through the changes in equipment

at one point, depending on the vehicle (back around the smog pump literal era) if you took the emissions stuff off you'd nearly double your mileage - one of the reasons why some states upped their inspection intervals

was particularly true with vehicles that were underpowered, gave about the same result as removing the AC AND power steering units as far as engine loads

if they get any less accurate with their testing methods for mpgs you'll start seeing crap like.. 100mpg Jeep Commander 6.2L .. because the testing method was to start the vehicle and see how much fuel it used while being towed in neutral

I've about quit paying attention to all of that mess, read something on the epa bulletin or something or other that said the regulation for mpg figures was an average of something or other over 2 miles or something like that.. don't know.. im sure it would be easy to google..

I noticed the new grand cherokee didn't say much about fuel mileage but said plenty about how many miles it got to a TANK, course it had like a 31 gal tank ..

Post subject:  Re: Fiat 500 = stylish pinto reborn

speaking tanks I'd love an auxilary one on the jeep. especially when I drove by that one station that was $3.17/gallon for regular.

shouldn't let it get that low anyway :P

fuel keeps the fuel pump cool
