Pie looks good, now if you want a better for you pie: The best tasting pie crust uses Lard instead of artery clogging Transfat (Crisco). For those who won't use lard, butter, chicken fat, or lamb fat will work. For all the vegiheads who don't eat meat products, they can use the Transfat. ![]() ![]() Transfat was originally developed to make a bio candle wax, then the Light bulb made the use of candles less of a strain on bees wax stocks and petroleum wax stocks. Transfat is made by bubbling hydrogen through vegetable oil under high pressure. After the light bulb, Transfat makers wanted to have a market so the big lie was started about transfat being better for you than butter and lard. |

cgass wrote: Let us know how it tastes The pumpkin pie was very good and the crust turned out nice. I would give it an 8 out of 10. I may tweak the recipe a little bit. The strawberry pie was also good, but defiantly not the best I‘ve had. First, I baked the pie crust by itself, and that turned out great. I then cooked the mashed strawberry sauce and poured it over fresh strawberries. Before going into the refrigerator to harden up, I topped it off with more fresh strawberries. The next time, I’m going to cut back on the amount of mashed strawberry sauce and use more fresh berries. I would probably give this a 7 out 10. There’s definitely room for improvement. I was probably the most impressed with how the crust turned out. Surprisingly, the pie crust never got soggy with either pie. It remained nice and flakey. I‘d give the crust a 9 out of 10. I may explore other pie recipes and different types of flour before putting my signature on it. ![]() |

The best pie I make is apple, or at least I think it is, ![]() have an old recipe that my Grandmother used, use her crust recipe as well. Oh and I bake it in a brown paper bag ![]() In my family it didn't matter if you were male or female you learned how to cook, butcher chickens, beef and hogs, raise and can veggies etc. Oh and has anyone ever had Green Tomato Pie, mmmm good not at all what you think it would taste like thinking about it I may have to bake one this week |

tommudd wrote: Oh and has anyone ever had Green Tomato Pie, mmmm good Yum! That's the cool thing about pies, you throw whatever's "in season" at the time in there. Whether that's fruit, veggies, or seafood/game is totally up to you. One thing's for sure, it'll be yummy. |

My dad's first job @ 15 yrs old was in a bakery, man he could whip up some killer cinnamin roles. At 81, he still makes some good cookies using the sour dough bread started as a base. My 11 yr old daughter has become our little Rachel Ray, she has a knack for baking, cooking not so much, but she can bake some very good desserts. Bake a man a pie, he will eat for a day, teach a man to bake, he will eat forever ![]() nice job for the first time! |
