I guess some punk got lucky and found a car with unlocked doors.

I'm leaving for work this morning (5AM) and noticed one of the tenants had their passenger door wide open. From where I was standing (2-3ft away) no sign of a break-in (broke window, pryed door, etc). So I thought nothing of it, but still checked my wife's KK and my KJ. Luckily no broken windows, broken locks or attempted break-in.

Since I didn't know wtf was the reason for the open door and her husband leaving his window half open the previous night, I thought nothing of it and left it alone.

My father-in-law (Landlord) calls me during work and asks questions about that tenants car. Turns out she never locks her doors and her cheapo $50 headunit is missing, along with some CDs. So now she's going to START locking her doors :banghead:

Makes me glad both of our Jeeps are tinted, mine is a lot darker than hers, but still makes it a bit difficult to break the window and peek inside.

I work security at a facility with multiple parking garages and we constantly have reports of people going around trying door handles. Usually they don't find anything but occasionally they do. I guess she was lucky that it was just her head unit and cd's that were stolen and not anything more valuable.

Homeless and drunks will sleep in unlocked cars, even if they don't steel anything.
They can have a bed wetting problem that will ruin your seats.

Ran across this article, ha..

http://consumerist.com/2011/10/cops-lea ... -cars.html
Quote:
Residents of Beverly, MA, who leave their car doors unlocked have been coming back to their parked vehicles to find a written scolding from local authorities attempting to cut down on crime.

The police in Beverly spent last weekend going through the area and checking for unlocked cars to see just how many people were leaving their vehicles unsecured and to increase awareness that an unlocked car is a target for thieves.

If they spotted an unlocked car — which they say was about 1-in-5 vehicles they tried — they not only left a warning notice on the windshield, but also locked the doors when they left.

The police say they did receive a few angry calls, including some from people who had left their keys inside their cars and now couldn't open the doors.

"It's a little creepy, but I think that it has best intentions," one resident tells WBZ-TV.

They do that in the Providence Place mall in Providence RI too. They'll leave you a note if you leave doors unlocked, valuables visible, GPS in window, etc.

I always lock my doors. Came out of the mall 1 day only to find some moron parked about 5-6 inches from my drivers side. I crawled in the passenger side over the console and backed out of the space,. Once I had some room I went back & checked 1 of his doors and found it unlocked. Reached in popped the hood latch, opened it up, opened all 4 doors and drove away. Hope he learned something from but he probably didn't.

That sucks Tomm. Anything stolen? I worry about them cutting through my sky slider too.
