Had that happen to me a few years ago during gun season.
I have a couple of places I've hunted for years that are on public land.
My ground blind has been in the same place since the mid-70's.
One morning, well after daylight, I heard allot of brush cracking from behind me......
....and here comes a couple of novice hunters chatting it up.... they even waved as they passed
about 40 feet from my blind.
They went about 30 yards down the trail, and one of them decides to have a seat at the base
of a birch tree....... still within sight of my blind.
The second went about 15 or 20 yards to his left, and parked himself under an oak tree....... then
promptly lit a smoke.
Since my mornings hunt was already completely ruined, I decided I might as well have some fun.....
So-o-o-o-o-o....... I took the safety off my trusty 30-30 Marlin....... cocked the hammer back, and touched off a round into the oak tree about ten feet to my left.
I quickly commented out loud, " Dammit!!! I wish this stupid thing would stop doing that!!"
Needless to say....... my two "friends" promptly decided to go hunt somewhere else.....
