Both my mom's new Ford Focus and my wifes Kia Sorrento have a hill decent control button. My question is Why would a FWD car or cross over need such a feature? Is it different than the ones in newer "offroad" vehicles? I Just can't see why they would spend any money on that program. Any ideas or theories?

Just a guess - but I'd say lots of drivers can't go down a long hill without killing the brakes

( I was at Rocky Mountain National park and you could smell the burned brake pads as folks went past - we were at the 1/2 way point - great overlook and parking place - and they just blew by - no stopping for a cooldown.
Also at Pike's Peak 1/2 way point - there's a Ranger checkpoint with IR guns for overheated brakes.)

It's for the people that ignore the "use low gear" signs. I've had friends that will hold the clutch in and ride the breaks down hills. An automatic left in "D" is basically doing the same thing.

Due to there being a lot of people who should never ever be allowed to drive anything besides a bicycle. Its sad though since things like that are even causing there to be more stupid drivers on the road

So all it does is keep the vehicle in lower gears for long decents? I assumed it was like ours, that selectively controlled individual brakes to maintain control and (slow) speed on loose or slick steep hills. If what y'all say is correct then that makes sense. But how a pushing a button is easier than just shifting to a lower gear is beyond me :dizzy: .

My brother doesn't know how to ride a bike. He tried once when I was teaching him as a child. He fell off and I got in trouble for letting him fall. He never tried again. He is 28 now.

Forget that...they should stay off bicycles too.
