I find alot of off roaders and dirt biker, ATV enthusiasts are also in guns too and some take them into the bush for wilderness protection during camping and also safe plinking away from populated areas.

What do you take with you and are you into modding these toys out too!!!

Have you run into any wilderness at all? I figure no bears nor cougars will come close to a KJ but maybe a parked ATV or bike.

I usually carry a 12 gauge and a 357 with me when I am out in the boonies.
You just can't be too prepared.

I carry a .45 with me when I go on an extended trip (day trips and longer). Most quick trips I don't worry about it. The Rangers in the national forest we off-road in, frown upon firearms. I'm a law enforcement officer and they don't give me a problem about my firearm. We do have some bears and gators issues down here in Florida so it's not a bad idea to have something to scare them off with. Chances are my .45 would just upset a bear or a gator but at least they could identify the one that ate me by the holes.

Wes

If your worried about survival they sell survival rifles that disassemble. Most of the time a disassembled .22 survival rifle is not going to get you in trouble with the law. If you ever needed it you could reassemble it in about 3 minutes.

When I go to thae adiorndaks mountains in up state ny, I bring a gun, because the bears WILL come down to you. One yea we had to actually shoot a round in the the side of the moutain to try to scare off a BIG bear. If that did not work, the the bear would have it pointed rite at it. Always blast around into nothing to try to scare off something!

A nice aluminum bat will solve much...and my 41 yrs of Three Stooges training. Use those two fingers and poke the beast in the eyes. They can't block you with their hand (no hands). A blinded beast can not catch you.

Worst case scenario, I'll use my "Expert" rifleman skills, and pretend the beast is either a pop-up target or a paper target with a figure outline on it, use my trained breathing technique, and gently squeeze the trigger. If I get a jam, I do sports. If the old SKS still doesn't fire, use my obstacle course training I learned from John Candy in Stripes, and run away.

Nothing quite that exotic, that's a run of the mill .44 mag Redhawk. It's actually my wife's weapon.

I've had quite the gamut of hand cannons, from S&W 1006s to Desert Eagle's .50ae. Now I'm just a dependable .45ACP guy

I LOVE my .45, but I also enjoy shooting my dad's .357 sometimes.

Your wife has a 44 Redhawk as a carry gun and you have a 50AE.  I feel inadequate!! LOL :D :D

Mmmm 10mm. That would be a good bear handgun I think if I couldn't be bothered to lug a shotty.

I have to agree w/ 45 for reliability although I don't think it is good enough penetration for a bear from what I have read. I guess you shouldn't use bio diesel in the bush since it smells like french fries :D

I almost always carry a Ruger P90 (.45ACP) when I go wheeling for a day trip. For camping trips or other extended trips I also bring my SKS, Winchester Model 94 (.45 Long Colt), and/or my 12 gauge coach gun (20" side-by-side with exposed hammers).
