If you want trouble codes follow this procedure:

1. Cycle the ignition key On - Off - On - Off - On within 5 seconds.

2. The odometer will show the P-code for the corresponding Diagnostic Trouble Code number.

3. If no DTC's are present, the cluster will display either:

A. "P1684" and "done"
B. Or, only "done"

P1684 does not indicate a problem; it's only a status, which indicates that the PCM memory has been cleared within the last 50 ignition cycles. "Done" indicates that no DTC's are present and the procedure is complete.

I just ran into a code not on your list when I forgot to make the electrical connection to the spark plug.

Here you can find a more complete list of codes:

Just to add to this thread. This does not work on 2006 models. You can no longer check your own codes. Chrysler has a new scan tool for 2006 to retreive the codes..

I've owned chrysler vehicles all my life, I'm very familiar with the on-off-on-off-on procuedure, could never get it to work on the 2006, talked with a tech at the dealer and he confirmed that you can no longer get the codes the old way :(

This worked on my 05 CRD till one of many TSB's were done. Since the flashes this doesn't work. Any one else noticed this?

My 06 will show codes the same way my 03 Ram did......

Hold down the Odometer reset button and Turn the key to the On position the Guages will go through a test and will then show any codes stored after a CEL

My 05 Sport will go through the display diagnostic and then display "5.7", and it will also display an error "P0457" via the on-off-on-off-on routine. I've found the P0457 error (loose gas cap), but I'm wondering if the "5.7" corresponds to the "P0457" code. :?:

My 05 Limited worked using the on - off bit. I got a code that isn't on the list! It's PO315. Anyone know what that is?

This isn't working for me :x Does the odometer have to be set on miles or trip or...? I tried several times, making sure I cycled them within 5 seconds and it was fully in each position, but I don't get anything. Not even the code that says everything is OK. Maybe I need a code scanner?

I had acidently disconnected a couple of vacume lines. I also found that on my 06 it tells you on the over head display what the error code is. Mine was check TPM (I think, something like that anyway). Anyway all is well now.

Typically 3 engine cycles - cold to hot and back will clear a CEL after you've corrected the cause.
