Well I finally got my rear hitch and tried to instal it tonight. But I can't get the bolts started. It's a U-haul hitch and all of the holes line up but the bolts won't start. I tried to get the crud out of there with WD40 and a brush but still no starty. Anybody got any tips on how to clean the threads on the Liberty?? Thanks

LR

Are they the right bolts? They should be metric bolts that are 12mm x 1.75 with a hardness of at least 10.9. Get a tap that is 12mm x 1.75 and clean those threads out if you have the right bolts.

They're the right bolts. I was kinda iffy about forcing them but I forced one and I pulled it out and the threads on both the bolt and the nut were fine. Ok so this weekend I'll retap the holes and it should go in much easier, thanks.

had the same issue go on when i was installing my gas skid. 3 years of dirt and grim had built up. Nothing a little household solvent couldn't fix and a small wire brush...Cleaned em out and the bolts fit like a glove.

I already have a rear hitch, can anyone tell me if you can install both the hitch and a Gas tank skid plate? Is it just needing longer bolts or what?

Thanks in advance...

I have a Kilby tank skid and hitch both mounted with the regular hitch bolts, they are long enough in my opinion to hold good. The Kilby is even thicker than an OEM and no problems
