Post subject:  CAMAHAFT SENSOR ?
My liberty will not stay running it has the 3.7L with around 96k on it. I have A DTC for camshaft position sensor malfuction. So does any one know ware the sensor is located on the engine? also how many other sensors are there?

Looking thru my FSM I did not find a listing for a camshaft position sensor, but I did find a crankshaft position sensor - is this possibly what is giving the error? If so then it looks to be mounted on the passenger side of the engine block:

This is for an '03 but I'd bet even money that it's the same for all years. Has anyone else heard of a camshaft sensor???

The DTC , P0340 Camshaft position sensor (A) circuit malfunction.
gets worse when hot

The camshaft postion sensor on the 3.7 is located on the passenger side cylinder bank.It is located directly below the valve cover on the side of the head(towards the front),it should be just to the left(behind) the PCV valve and below the heater hose hard lines.Hope that helped.

Nope,it's on the outside of the passenger side cylinder head,towards the front of the engine,just below the valve cover,above the exhaust manifold,to the left of the PCV valve,and probally covered by the heater core hard line hoses.Just look in that area for a plug with some wires.

Yep like new. The sensor cost 15$ at the dealer and took like 10 minutes for me to install and cleared the DTC. thanks again guys!

Welp, my gf's '03 died on her last night a few miles from the house and wouldn't stay running. It threw a P0320 and a P0340. I guess I'll replace the camshaft position sensor and just see what happens.

I also noticed that the ASC (whatever that is) relay kept clicking on and off when I looked at it on the side of the road. I hope it isn't the PCM problem that I've read about.

ETA: I did the camshaft sensor and also the crankshaft sensor for good measure (it's cheap, easily accessible, and she lives 200 miles away... so it made sense to just do it).

I got to both sensors by laying on my back under the passenger side of the engine.... The camshaft sensor mounts vertically (so you pull the electrical connector straight toward the ground to remove it) and you have to reach pretty far up in there to get at it - it is near the airbox. The crankshaft sensor is much closer to the ground and toward the rear of the engine.

It's been running great for the past couple days... here's hoping it stays that way!
