I'm posting on this long-dead topic just in case someone searches for a similar complaint and finds this. I had what sounds exactly like the OP's issue. Turned out to be the ball joint in the rear upper suspension was loose. The balljoint itself is mounted in rubber, which had become completely hammered out. You'd get a nice clunk getting on and off the gas, when taking off, and between gears.
