I was out on a muddy road going back to a good fishing spot and I tried to shift into 4WD. The transfer case shift (4WD lever) moved way to easy. I could move it through all the 'gears' freely. There was no 'clunk' to indicate ANY movement to switch to 4WD. My dilemna is that I could move is freely. Even when I got back on the black top I tried to get it to shift to 4WD and it wouldn't. Any ideas?

Keith

which transfer case?

if it's the 231 - command trac - it's gotta be a linkage issue somewhere

if it's the 242 select trac - then you could have something as simple as mismatched tire pressure
the 242 lever pushes against a spring - if there's any mismatch front to rear - it won't go into 4wd

Do you have a Full-time 4wd?

if you have part time only it's a 231
if you have part time and full time -it's a 242
