Nice video!

One question though, gasket maker and a gasket???? That doesn't seem right.

Wouldn't you be best to use one or the other???

Using both is makes it easier, the RTV is used to hold the gasket in place and fill in any small voids in the pan/trans surface.

Personally just using RTV is the better method.

like tjkj said, using sealant ONLY is way better. i didnt say in the video, but afterwards, i couldnt get the gasket to stop leaking even after turning the bolts a bit tighter. i wound up pulling the pan back off and just used sealant only. it hasnt leaked a drop since. lesson learned.

you didn't mention this in the video but the manuals I have for
my 42rle says one of the bolts needs lock n seal. what is this
for and is it required and if so is there something I can substitute for it? I ask because I couldn't find it and I'm not near a dealer at the moment.

I just got all the stuff. Is a after market drain bolt a good idea?

I'm pretty sure it is a T25 torx.

Just changed the transmission fluid/filter yesterday. If you put a thin coating of bearing grease around the lip of the transmission pan, it will hold the rubber gasket in place long enough to get the bolts in. Then, start tightening from a center bolt and alternate out, similar to tightening the lug nuts on a tire. I checked the pan this morning, NO leaks anywhere. I'll double check in another week to be safe.

I've read where it's not recommended to routinely change your transmission fluid. That it might create new problems if you unnecessarily change your transmission fluid. Is this true?

I've overheated my transmission fluid several times. Can a transmission shop test my fluid to see if it needs to be changed?

Transmission fluid degrades over time from contaminants and heat. Not changing it makes no sense to me. "Don't ever change your trans fluid" myth probably got started by someone that went 250k miles them changed the fluid and coincidentally the transmission blew up. It wasn't the fluid change. It was the lack of maintenance! Overheated fluid has a burnt smell completely different from good ATF. Change it, brother!
