You should ALWAYS change ALL fluids after any water crossing that's 15" or more (about 1/2 up your wheels). It's cheap insurance against moisture in your drivetrain.

I put Amsoil tranny fluid in my transfer case. it holds such a small amount of fluid, you want the best in there you can! And it's so easy to change too.

I just attempted this install and noticed a couple things (keep in mind I have an 04 Sport 5-spd). For one, the only breather I found on the rear diff looked like it came out of the square brake line junction. Although it is actually mounted to the axle and not the diff, I assume this is correct since that is the only breather tube I have. I extended this one up beyond the fuel filler. Did you guys have something similar?

The biggest issue is that the 5-spd doesn't have a breather tube; instead, it has a little "valve" installed on the top of the transmission on the passenger side near the bellhousing. I'm going to try a couple Toyota parts to see if I can retrofit a breather system for it. If that doesn't work, I'm going to cut a little of the "valve" off so I can slip some 5/16" fuel line on it. I'm running all the breather lines (except for the rear diff breather) up to a CB Performance breather box that I'm going to mount on the passenger side firewall underneath the hood. Right now, I just have the transfer case and front diff breather tubes zip-tied together near the electrical junction box under the hood. I found the transfer case breather tube hooked to the engine block on the driver's side.

Thanks,
OG

Did three out of four between last night and this morning (two last night before the rain rolled in, one this morning). Just need to find the last one and get it extended...

oh I thought the one on the dipstick is the tranny one, cause if you look at the diagram here it looks to be:

but then were does the TC one go?

what year is that diagram from? It's different than my 2003.

Either way, just extend them all.

That diagram is for the 42RLE transmission and is the same as the one in my '03 parts manual. I *think* the one attached to the back side of the engine is for the t-case, but I'd have to try and trace them both out to be sure. Either way I'll find that last one and get it extended then go find some DEEP water to have fun in  8)

I hear talk about a valve? Comintg from my years in the paint industrie many airless paint prayers and some HVLP air spray guns in their design, is this valve mentioned a one way check valve ( allows flow in one direction and seals itself with the reverse flow) I'm not sure with the difference of air flow to fluid flow could be acheived with a check valve, but I am curious. :? :?

IIRC, the 45 is based on the 727 and (again IIRC) the breather on the 727 is inside of the bell housing. I thought you had to pull the torque convertor to get to it in a 727. Maybe one of the design updates for the 45 is to run the breather out of the bell on top?
