| Post subject: | Transmission Pan Recommendations Please |
I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that this week I discovered that my transmission oil pan has rusted out. The engine oil pan had already rusted out. So guys, what would you recommend for a replacement transmission oil pan? Should I go to Mopar or can I get an aftermarket? I'd like to either find an oil pan with a fitting for a temperature sensor or I'll put one in. My Liberty is an 04 Sport, 3.7 L gasser. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

My transmission should be the 42RLE shouldn't? I think I can search for an aftermarket pan for that model. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Thanks KJ/toy, I've seen that website before when Googling transmission pans. I like the idea of a deeper pan with provisions to add a sensor or a drain plug but I'm not sure if www.yourcovers.com ships to Canada. Also $200 for an oil pan??? Seems a like a lot of money. But I suspect that I will discover that the new oil pan will be similar to the replacement engine oil pan that I had to buy. Super thin metal. I wonder if I should hit it with some bedliner pant. Or at the least smear oil/grease on it to keep it from rusting. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

I painted mine with some "ship paint" but keep the underside washed and it will slow it down. |

I have an update. I visited my local Mopar dealership and learned that the new stock pan only costs $75 and was in stock so I picked one up. The new tranny oil pan seems pretty sturdy, built better than the engine oil pan that I replaced. I also picked up a new filter since I'll have the bottom of the transmission open anyways. Now, my next idea is to drill a couple of holes in the new oil pan for a temp sensor and a drain plug. Has anybody else done this mod? Do you think it's a good idea? Dunno about the temp sensor, but I installed a drain plug on mine. I install drain plugs on all my tranny pans - makes it so much easier and cleaner. |

I know that it's not necessary to change the tranny fluid that often but a drain plug would make the job less messy. I assume that I should place my drain plug at the rear of the pan? I'm pressed for time. Next week I have some vacation time booked. I'll have to replace the tranny pan now and later remove it and install the drain plug and temp sensor. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Leeann, could you tell us which drain kit you use please? I was just thinking about one yesterday, but I've heard they leak, so a verified one would be awesome

So where does one drill the hole for this drain plug. On the bottom of the pan? With the transmission skid plate beneath the transmission it would be protected. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

My hubby (HVAC master) looked at the pan, looked at the tranny and decided where it should go. |
