So my KJ now has 138k miles and is my daughters, my 4 door JK has 144k so I jumped and bought a Cherokee with the Trail Hawk package. Since I just barely got home with it I don't really have any reviews other than I love the looks, I love the interior and the power as well as the ride. All are superior over my other Jeeps. I don't expect it to perform off road like my JK Rubi but I have a feeling it will out do the KJ. Just the locker, power and gears seem to be A major improvement. As time goes on I am sure I will have more opinions both go and bad.

As time goes on I will give it an honest review. I have read the stories seen the videos etc. but there is nothing like getting it out in the real world and see how it actually performs. I plan to take it off road this weekend and see what's what.

Yeah...
I think you're right and I liked you points mentioned on the thread.
But Following are much attractive:
1. I like that the fuel mileage has increased.
2. I like the extra storage that is under the rear floor cargo area.
4. I like the hidden seat storage.
6. I like all the safety features the new KL has compared to the Liberty.

Thank you.

I think you hit the nail on the head.
Great mpg from Jeep without a diesel.

Most of us can identify dozens of things that we don't like about the KL compared to the KJ/KK, however, I'm trying to keep this thread positive. Here's the official link to the new Liberty replacement:

What do you like better about the Cherokee vs. the Liberty?

1. I like that the fuel mileage has increased.
2. I like the extra storage that is under the rear floor cargo area.
3. I like that the backseat is 2.2" inches larger than the Liberty.
4. I like the hidden seat storage.
5. I like that the Cherokee has the Trailhawk package for those who want a factory rear locker, 56:1 crawl ratio, skid plates, 20-inch water fording capability, and off-road suspension with one-inch factory lift.
6. I like all the safety features the new KL has compared to the Liberty.

All of those things you mentioned.

I have warranty again. Bought the Trailhawk.

After the '05 Liberty CRD developed a severe block crack it was time to move on. Got a new 2015 Cherokee Latitude 3.2L V6 4WD with the cold weather and convenience group packages, granite crystal in color.
The ride is so much smoother and quieter, seats are also more comfortable. Just took it on a 2600 mile trip and gave it a thumbs up for comfort. MPG is not all that much different than the CRD, 29.2mpg (mostly 70mph) for the entire trip and with gas cheaper than diesel, was more economical.
I've read about trans shifting issues but did not experience anything that I would call unusual. Trans shifted smoothly both up and down. My build date was 1-2015 so it's possible it had the latest software updates.
So far very satisfied and the memories of the CRD are rapidly fading.

I just traded in my 2010 Liberty for a 2016 Trailhawk this morning and the difference is shocking.

It is such a smoother quieter ride, LOTS and LOTS more features, I didn't even have a blue tooth radio before!

My only fear is it is SO nice that I will be afraid to put it through its paces like I did the Liberty. I actually checked the thing for dings in the parking lot after I came out of dinner tonight which I never do.

Not sure if this counts as an upside for those that bought theirs new but they are dirt cheap used! There are lots of 2016's available right now in my area with 12-18,000 miles on them for $24,500-25,500!!!! That's at least $10k off a new one when they still have the new car smell!

I know this is an old thread but any input on the new redesigned '19 Cherokee vs the kk? I test drove a trailhawk a few weeks ago, seemed good, looks like they offer a lifetime powertrain as a service plan also.

I recently drove home a custom-ordered 2019 Jeep Trailhawk Elite with the 2.0 Turbo. I traded in my 2012 Liberty Latitude with the 2.5-inch JBA Adjust-a-Strut lift.

1. Lost only a little ground clearance compared to the lifted Liberty.
2. Gained a rear locker.
3. Gained WAY more HP and torque with the 2.0 Turbo (really fun to drive).
4. Lost all of that noisy JBA suspension. It was the #1 reason to trade up.
5. Gained a lot of tech goodies to keep me entertained. Really like the Adaptive Cruise Control!
6. Much, MUCH nicer interior.
7. Lost a bit of interior storage.

For those of you that tow your Cherokee behind a motorhome, you may have heard of or experienced that "death wobble" in the unpowered electric steering. The fix from FCA was to retrofit a "flat tow wiring kit". I have talked to several people with this kit and they all absolutely hate it! Forget to flip the switch or remove the fuse and you have a dead battery. Don't get the sequence right and you get fault codes.

The good news is FCA took care of that problem with the 2019 Cherokee. As long as you have the Active Drive II system, you can flat tow by simply putting the t-case in neutral, just like with the Liberty. No more spending unexpected cash on a flat tow wiring kit that required a very specific "pat head and rub belly" dance to engage/disengage without throwing fault codes!

Had a Cherokee XJ, then 10 yrs with an 06 KJ CRD, died in an accident this spring. Have, for two days now, a 2019 KL Trailhawk. Too soon to tell a lot of differences
Responding to original points:
1. I like that the fuel mileage has increased. '''Will be comprable to the CRD which never got as good mileage as I expected from a diesel, but I didn't care, I loved the power profile. Bad side of the KL is a too small (IMHO) gas tank.
2. I like the extra storage that is under the rear floor cargo area. Yes, but I preferred the spare on the outside of my CRD, gave me a place to carry bicycles. The cargo area in the KL seems less flat than the KJ, will have to adjust if I have to sleep in it sometime.
3. I like that the backseat is 2.2" inches larger than the Liberty. Yes, better back seat. Don't plan to spend a lot of time there.
4. I like the hidden seat storage. The bins, slots and storage areas are nice.
5. I like that the Cherokee has the Trailhawk package for those who want a factory rear locker, 56:1 crawl ratio, skid plates, 20-inch water fording capability, and off-road suspension with one-inch factory lift. Yes, yes, yes. Finally a locker in my life.and the skid plates and more. Will have it out to see how it goes. The KJ with TA/KOs went really well when I had it off road and sirt roads, mud and snow.
6. I like all the safety features the new KL has compared to the Liberty. The KJ had a great field of vision backing up. So glad the kl has a backup camera and cross traffic warning.

The new navigation/control screen looks good and useable.

I'll post more after I get some miles on it but really pretty happy although I told the dealer I would write them a check, full MSRP< for a new 2006 KJ CRD.

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted - maybe 8 yrs or so. I owned two Liberty’s -2007 6 spd 4wd and 2007 2wd auto. In the intervening years also had a 2011 Wrangler 2d, a 2015 Wrangler 4d, and a Chevy Silverado reg cab. Now I’m 73, getting older, and downsized to one vehicle - 2019 Cherokee Trailhawk. Before I go into detail, let me summarize that my favorite vehicles out of this group were the Liberty 6 spd and the 2d Wrangler. The least favorite - the 4d Wrangler. - like driving a bus, no agility on-road or off.

Now - Liberty vs Cherokee Trailhawk. The latter is modern, high tech, great handling on and off road, and has that rear locker. I live in a hot sunny climate - Lower Rio Grande Valley. The large sloping glass front windshield is going t make for some very hot slow speed rock crawling in Big Bend. It is a more comfortable vehicle than the Liberty, but somehow I’m.concerned about long term durability. I felt confident in the body structure with the Liberty and the traditional drivetrain layout.

I think the Liberty had better articulation. I did have problems with it - sagging original springs, power windows, and the abs/anti skid going to limp mode. No, it wasn’t lifted.

The Cherokee Trailhawk would be a great snow country machine. I’m not sure if I want to subject it to desert mountain rock crawling. Maybe I pick up a used Liberty 6 spd and build it for the rough stuff. No lift, but new springs and stuff and some 24570 tires.

Regardless, I’m back on this forum afte4 a long hiatus.
