I finally had the fuel tank / trailer hitch recall work performed. I have the factory tow package, so that meant the inspection plus new bolts. Plus there was some air bag control circuit recall work that could be done as well.

Anyway, while at the dealer I had the opportunity to look at the undercarriage of a KL and took two pictures.

Here is the driver side Lower Control Arm.

Here is more of the undercarriage. Not sure which model this is, but it's not a Trailhawk. It's clearly AWD.

The interesting part is the LCA. It does not have the usual pair of revolute joints encased in (butyl?) rubber bushings. Rather, there is what is likely a conventional revolute joint and bushing at the front. The rear joint appears to be some sort of spherical ball joint.

I'm guessing that this design is insensitive to the alignment of the axis of the front joint with the ball joint center. That would let the designer choose a stiffer front bushing, either a thinner rubber bushing or a bushing made of a stiffer material like polyurethane. That combined with the ball joint in the rear should make the LCA stiff both laterally and in yaw rotation with respect to the cradle or whatever the heck it is that it's attached to. That would be good for handling and steering.

I'm guessing toe-in is adjusted by rotating the LCA about the rear ball joint.

It's an interesting design. The bad thing is this particular implementation (reportedly) has very limited travel.

I'm pretty sure he didn't buy a KL, rather while his KJ was in the shop he took some pictures of a KL on display.

Gotcha! That makes more sense!
