I'm trying to use the Phoenix system reverse bleeder on new rear calipers and am having a problem with fluid coming out of the thread on the bleeder nipple rather than going into the line. I've tried only cracking open slightly just to the point where I feel the bleeder pump allow flow, as well as opening the bleeder further. Both times I had the same response - fluid doesn't go into the brake line, but seeps out of the thread.

Do I need to do a traditional pedal pumping method to flush the line since these are new calipers and don't have any fluid in them yet, or am I doing something wrong?

I have had the same type of problem with my vacuum bleeder. The best one person solution I have found is just letting gravity do the work.

I had that issue in my wife's Patriot and my CRD. In my CRD I fixed it using an antiseized compound from Autozone around the threads of the bleeder screw and in my wife's Patriot I solved it with a couple of passes of teflon tape around the threads of the bleeder screw.
