Soooo. What's the plan? Drive up Sat morning and run the trail, spend the night and come back Sunday?

So Saturday night needs to be at the end of the trail... Off the 395?

Burch, YOU call it!  need some help here....

Sorry I've been pretty busy these past couple months.

How far of a drive is it for you folks? Looks like 4hrs for you Burchie.

Where exactly does the trail end?

Couple hours for me...little less than going to Big Bear. Our trail leader Mike knows more details but is offline for a few days while on Ouray, Co.

That's what I'm working on. I don;t under stand the Monache part. I think it's a loop off of the Sherman pass, but where i don't know. And I can't figure out where the S. Pass joins the 395.

Based on what Ed posted it looks like Sherman Pass road connects to 395 on J41.

It looks like Kernville isn't all that far for lodging; however, those of you heading south might find the Inyokern/Ridgecrest area more to your liking.

Monache is just a dead-end trail a bit farther down Sherman Pass Rd. from the Sherman Pass 4x4 trail. If you look at the Area 9 Map, Monache is #67 and the Sherman pass 4x4 trail is #68.

Thanks for posting the map Ed.

Ok/.... I've printed out all the map, and have all the trails figured out. Pretty straight forward, looks like a great trip. Here is the tricky part. The Sherman Pass 4x4 trail, is an off shoot of the Sherman Pass Road. The road I think is paved, but the 4x4 trail has several very difficult spots on it. (need to confirm this with Mike)

The Monache trail is all easy. It's an up and back trail that comes off the Sherman Pass road heading north.

So.... the Sherman Pass Road is 45 miles long, and the 4x4 trail is 16 miles long, 3-4 hours depending on rig set up. The Monache trail is 18 miles up and back all so 3-4 hours. Looks like a long day on the trail.

Then Sherman Pass Road turns into Nine Mile Canyon Rd, dropping us off on the 395 north of Inyokern.

Next step is to find campsite and hotel info. So please stay tuned.

Looks like we posted at the same time Burchie. Is that Nine Mile Canyon Rd. the one near Pearsonville? On Ed's map that is.

Ridgecrest seems to have your average assortment of hotels

OK I'm back from Ouray, wish I was still there!!
The Monache trail is a loop trail and dosen't connect to the 395.
I'll give more details tommorw, I'm a little fried from the drive from Colorado.

Some more details on the trails;

From Kernville its about 30 miles to the Sherman trailhead.
From the Monache trailhead to the 395 is about 40 miles.
There are several nice campgrounds in the trail area. This area is a designated OHV trail area.
The Sherman trail has a few rough spots but nothing major. The Monache has no obstacles.
A lifted KJ with rocker protection should do fine.
You guys sound like tough adventuresome 4 wheelers. Besides I think John will have a winch by then.
Burchie should bring his pearl white Cherokee, and show us how to run the obstacles.
I ran both of the trails in my JK and it took about 2+ hours each. Both can easily be run in a day.

BTW - On the Monache map the trail starts at the red TH symbol, then on to the Monache meadows. You take the same trail back out.

Now you're talking about the sherman pass 4x4 trail that loops to the north of the sherman pass road. ? every map I have seen rates this as a difficult trail.

JJ, that's back at the start of the trail. I'm thinking about pitching a tent on the trail at Kennedy meadows for the night.

Or at one of the several other camping sites up there.

Yes that is the trail. It is rated Difficult, even by the forest service, but I didn't think is was that rough. I would compare it to the White Mt (not Gold Mt) trail in BB, or the Heartbreak Ridge, minus the Pontiac loop.
