I will be heading up to Kernville on the evening of the 5th. San Diego is too far to leave Sat am. I will be staying in a motel somehwere. I know Kernville has many options so that is not my real question. But how about Sat night? Would it be better to spend the night in Ridgecrest, or are there any plans near Kernville on Sunday morning?

I've stayed at the Pine Cone Inn before in Kernville. The rates are $85.00 per night. The rooms are decent. They do have a pool...but no hot tub.

OK I'm in! I would also prefer to camp up on the trail. Don't know if any of the girls will go with me but I've always wanted to go up that route.

So far it sounds like we are meeting on Sat morn. then running the trail??
If so I would suggest we meet at the Sherman Pass summit overlook on Sherman Pass Road around 8:30 or so then
head for Serman trailhead, which is about a mile or so from the summit.
BTW Sherman pass RD is a 2 lane paved road.
There are free campgrounds @ Monache Meadows if anyone wants to stay there after the run.
(I'll most likley leave for home on Sat after the Monache trail).

I forgot to add that you'll need to fill up your gas tank before the trail. There is a Shell station on 395
a few miles north of the 395/14 merger in InyoKern. Also stations in Kernville.
The turnoff for the Sherman pass road after the Shell station
from the 395 has a sign posted -Kennedy Meadows. About 10 -15 miles up you'll see the Kennedy Meadows turn off, go to the left to Sherman Pass/
Black Rock ranger station not KM. At the Black Rock ranger station intersection go to the lef to Sherman Pass.
From Kernville take the road up the Kern Riv. to the Sherman Pass Rd then up to the summit overlook.

Burchie should bring his pearl white Cherokee,

You should see the inside. Leather, wood trim. That's how we roll in the IE.

You should take it on the Cleghorn trail if you want to roll in the IE.

What way would suggest we go on the Shearman Pass road.

- from Kernville to the 395
- 395 to kernvile
- or in from the 395 and out the same way?

If you arn't staying in Kernville, it's shorter and quicker to take the 395 to the SPRd.
From yo casa probably the 395 all the way, unless you want to go through Langcoster.
The trails head from S. Pass back towards the 395, so thats usually a better way home.

OK. I'm formulation my plan. I think I have all the details.
How far is it from Ridgecrest, to the meeting point on the pass?

To help aid in your formulation, it's about 20 miles or so from Ridge to the turnoff, and about 50 to the pass overlook.
Those Project JK vidios are pretty well done. There are several of the trails they cover.
I'm gonna be doing a couple Tahoe area trails on the 30th, labor day - the Strawberry Pass, Deer valley and the Slickrock.
Project KJ does video coverage on these trails on U Tube.
Maybe I'll send some coverage pix of the trails.
