Well I haven’t had a lot of time to get out in our local desert until this last weekend.
With a free weekend I headed to Anza Borrego and I can report:
No rain this year so no wildflowers this year. Last year was a record wildflower bloom.
The Big Eared Owls did not migrate this year. Last year there were 30 in one tree!
I spent 7 offroad hours with the retired ranger that introduced me to the desert animal tracks. Last year we covered the southern Anza Borrego and last weekend we explored the northern Anza Borrego. The find of the day was the Mammoth trail. Last year we saw single track from a variety of animals but last weekend we saw a Mammoth trail walking up the side of a hill. The age, the size, the weight of the depression and the gate were all indicators that the tracks were from a Mammoth.

Happy trails and see you all in Moab.
