Come One Come All..............

Mark your calendars Saturday July 14 & Saturday August 25. These are the days that we will be cleaning up OUR Adopt A Trail.

We will be meeting at 8am at the McDonalds on the I15 at the Hwy 138 exit and heading out at 8:30.

What we will be doing is trash pick up, cleaning out the colverts and trimming back the over growth, also known as "brushing", on the trail.

What you should bring with you:
Plenty of water
Hats and sun screen
Gloves
Trash Bags
Yard tools; rakes, shovels, hedge clippers, etc.

Just a few words of caution, as you all know we have had an extemely dry winter and the vegetation is very dry so if are bringing any kind of gas powered tools, ie: weed wackers, please make sure they are in good working order. We don't want sparks or mishaps that may spark a fire.

Also with the dry condiction the snake are a plenty. I don't want to scare any one but I do want you all to be aware that they are out there, so wearing some kind of boot or closed shoe is adviseable along with the gloves.

We are planing to spend a few hours up there and get as much done before it gets too hot, so the more people the better.
This is a great trail and all it needs is some caring, dedicated people like us KJ West folks to take care of it.

Thanks in advance to all I know are going to be there :D

Given the heat and the events at All J's on the 14th is 8am an early enough time or how many of you would like to start early...say 7am?

The date is not going to change, just maybe the start time.

Thanks again to all that are going to be there.

Hi everyone: Sorry, I won't be able to make the July day, so here are directions to get to the trail base by Lake Silverwood:

If you're coming from the south, from the junction of the I 15 and SH 138, turn right at the off ramp. Continue on to the junction with SH 173, turn left. Go several miles til you see the sign for Cedar Springs Dam, turn right and go up the hill. Just before you get to the parking area, turn left onto the dirt trail; that's the beginning of our trail, 2N33. Annette: you have the Trail Maintenance Plan. Use the odometer readings in reverse from the junction with 2N17X.

If you're coming from the Victor Valley area, Main Street in Hesperia going east, it curves around and becomes Lake Arrowhead Road. Continue on this til you get to the junction with SH 173 and turn right. Stay on 173 until you come to the Cedar Springs Dam sign, turn left then left again at the top onto the dirt trail.

2N33 is about 10 1/2 miles long. I'm sure you won't get it all done, but chipping away at it is great. The trail ends at the top by the Forest Service's Rock Camp, at a juncture with SH 173 again. You can go down this way if you like; it's faster and eventually goes to pavement. You'll pass the junction going to Hesperia, and further on you'll pass the Cedar Springs Dam site and later the Junction with SH 138. Turn right to get back to the I 15, go over the overpass to take the on ramp south. (Although there are "Road Closed" signs at the top and bottom of SH 173, it really isn't. CalTrans has posted those to absolve them of responsiblity because it's a one lane dirt route with no side rails, the only one in the state I'm told.)

Bring: loppers and/or hedge trimmers, shovels, gloves, plastic trash bags, Throw any trimmed brush and any trail debris DOWNHILL providing it's clear to do so. Also, bring LOTS of water. What worked well this Saturday was a large round water cooler which I filled half way with ice and the rest water. It lasted all day and everyone had nice ice cold water to drink. Of course, your preferences, like your mileage and sex life, may vary.

Have a great day! I should be good for the August date.

Sorry I couldn't make it to help out and go to Quinn's grand opening. I tried to get the time off but we got several guys in training and had to cover for them.
