I know it is late notice but a group from MJR needs a leader to get them through Rattlesnake and onto Heartbreak/Pontiac and then into Big Bear. I am SICK of the dang desert heat so I am heading up there AGAIN!! This Saturday, the 25th. It will be an early run, meeting at the Chevron station at the 18/247 junction or nearby at around 0700-ish and heading to the trailhead shortly thereafter to meet up w/ the group from My Jeep Rocks. (www.myjeeprocks.com) as long as I don't encounter any problems or weekend overtime I will be there. IF YOUR NAME IS ED V. and YOU DIDN"T MAKE THE BIG BEAR EVENT, YOU SHOULD PROBABLY SHOW UP FOR THIS RUN!! |

I'll be there if my jeep is back from the shop before then. I'm supposed to hear from the dealer on Thurs. EDIT: Looks like the new heads will be in on Thurs, so they're hoping to have it ready on Friday. It's gonna be close. I'll try to make it, but since it looks like Heartbreak will be a no-go, I'm not gonna mind missing another run of Rattlesnake already. Plus I was going to do a Cleghorn to Pilot Rock to Willow Creek scouting run for some friends this week, which might have to be postponed till next week anyway. |

I'll be at the Chevron Station at 7:00am ready to roll...... Also as a side note I made a call to someone of importance in the FS this morning and the trail is OPEN still and until something on the ground changes, we are good to run it. It could be at least a year before anything happens up there. Yes it is being *considered* for wilderness area, but it's not done yet. If you want more info call me and I will share what I was told this morning about things PS. JJ give me a call today when you get a chance |

| Post subject: | TRAIL REPORT & PICS |
This was another great trip up Rattlesnake canyon then to Heartbreak and on into Big Bear. The springs in rattlesnake cyn were running a little more than on previous trips but still no more than a trickle. This trail would be Great in the cooler months with some rain or water running through the canyon. We had 15 (IIRC) vehicles run through Rattlesnake and then 10 made the trip onto Heartbreak.
Here are some more pics I snapped. Hopefully others wil post up some of theirs. Most of the tral is spent inside a nice canyon setting.
There are several small, rocky sections that provide some entertainment and challenge to the less set up vehicles.
Though we ran Heartbreak, I will refrain from posting pics of the signage or trail in order to keep from causing any controversy about the trail. It was explained to us by a NFS rep that it IS slated for eventual closure but the plan for that area has not been finalized and until it is it remains an open trail. I really wish that it could remain open forever as it is a great area and trail and since it is adopted and used I do not understand why it can't remain open. What can we do as a group to fight this? What can we do as a group to fight future trail closures? Somehow I do not think that the Big Bear area is getting the proper amount of support from us and the trail use/access orgs to keep it all open. I think that eventually we are going to lose more of OUR trails. (FWIW, I am already a member of BRC, CA4WDC, AZ4WDC, and other orgs) |
