I need a Calico fix bad so I would like to start planning a run for out there in the next few months. We have Last Chance Cyn in October and I am sure an Anza run soon too. (and possibly an Anza run for the Turkey crawl....??)

Any particular date stand out for anyone that Wants to go to Calico? I am thinking early November-ish but open to seggestions.

ED V, When can YOU go?

Anza's too far and I'd need my yearly Calico fix as well. It'd have to be November though

Early to mid November sounds good to me.

Is Calico still happening? If so, do you have a date set? I haven't been up there in about three years since I had my Z71 Chevy. I would like to go wheeling sometime and meet some of you all. Would a stock Renegade have any problems? Like I said, it has been a while.

A stock Renegade would have problems in a couple spots for sure and there would be damage for sure too. I wouldn't run Calico on less than a 30" tire and w/ heavy duty rocker protection and skids on the front, trans, transfer case, and gas tank. The thread about Millers has a list forming to run up there.

Ran Calico with Wally, Justin and Steve from San Diago yesterday and the trail has change again holes are deeper and obstacles are harder. I would recommend what JJ said need all the protection and tow points. We were behind a big group of XJs and several TJ. The fist obstacle a XJ broke his left front axle u-jont then broke 2 wheel studs taking his wheel off so he ended up removing his left axe and reinstalled his tire and that was the end of his day. We waited about an hour or so and while waiting for the trail to clear word came down another XJ broke a rear spring hanger at the water fall. When we got there he was alone and waiting for parts. We did fine and Justin needed to be strap several times he has a few scars from Calico and gain alot of experience. His stock running bars actually help him from bigger damage he has tracklock rear and open front. Steve and I are set up the same TT up front and Powertrax N/S rear so we just needed to take the right lines to make it up the obstacles. Wally had no problem at all walked right up everything. Since all the National forest are close all the off roaders are up in the high desert which are the only places to off road so I would't be suprise when we go back to Calico in a few weeks the trail might be more technical and exciting for us.
We finished the trail about 330pm started about 915am. Justin took some pictures and he said he will be posting them later.

It wouldn't surprise me if some of the changes came from Rock Unstacking that some other groups like to do before they run the trail.

Is this place going to be a zoo over Thanksgiving weekend?

Usually pretty slow on turkey day when we have been there in the past.

Yup, will be posting a trail report tomorrow and post pics tomorrow. Just resized a bunch of pictures and getting a little too sleepy to organize my thoughts. It's a real fun trail, can't wait to come back with a locker and boulderbars. Had to be strapped a few times courtesy of Wally's tow service with an assist from Steve. Came out with some scratches on my flare and bumpers, stock renegade rock rails sure took a beating. Heck even Wally scratched a flare :P Nolan, I think you're the only one that came out unscathed. I highly recommend folks to run this trail. As long as you have a lift, skids, some form of rocker protection and tow points this trail should be on your list to do.

I'll go into more details tomorrow.
