I posted some details in the other thread.

From what I've heard, you can see smoke from the fire in Las Vegas.

I'm feeling pretty pissed and sick right about now. :x Any word on what caused this one? Sure would be nice if it would rain enough up there to keep this from happening every year. Some clearing of dead and diseased trees would probably help too. It makes me sick every time I hear that there is a fire anywhere up there.

As of right now they're saying 18000 acres. There is a mandatory evacuation of Fawnskin and Green Valley Lake, and a recommended voluntary evacuation of part of Lucerne Valley and the entire community from Running Springs to Arrowbear. Still no containment.

I can pretty much guarantee now that we wont be taking the 3N16 into Big Bear, and it looks like heading in from White Mountain may be a no-go at this point as well.

Is Karen (?) OK? There are some members living up in Big Bear right? Hope they got out fine and their houses are not threatened.

AFAIK, Karen's house is no where near the fire and isn't in any danger. The only community that is really under threat from the fire right now is Fawnskin. For Big Bear Lake, Big Bear City, and Baldwin there's really no threat.

Nothing official on what caused the fire yet. Only thing coming close that I've heard so far is that there might have been a hot-spot from the last Butler fire that wasn't caught and that got built up by the high winds we've been having the last few days.

Sitting here in Las Vegas and the valley is filled with smoke from this fire.

I feel bad for those whose homes may be lost in this fire...

It's making the news out here on the east coast. How about a local update?

This is a thermal image placed on top of a Google map. The red indicates where the fire actively burning as of yesterday afternoon.

If you go to the map.... your can zoom in on your favorite trail.

Burned. I'm listening to the air-tanker scanners right now. Amazing what resources they have up there. This DC-10 is neat.

All J is fine. The city of BB and BB Lake are on the South side of the lake. The fire is on the North side, moving in a North east direction. (the area where all our trail are).

I'm so glad to hear they're all good so far. Hopefully the wind cooperates and they can get it contained quickly.
